This is about as slow-burning as a bag of shit on my porch and relatively similar in the amount of
enjoyment I derive from it.

The only thing this album lacks is the 'Opeth factor'. Pretty solid prog album.

Opeth is just the most boring band i've ever listened to...

"....don't even see the relevance of comparing this Hail to the Thief or 10,000 Days? "

I guess that's my point - I really don't either, but that's what this review does. To me, those albums are in a completely different league than this cesspool of mediocrity, but I guess the reviewer sees it otherwise...

"he's putting a ton of buzzwords in a sentence, lol. he's sort of right, it's based off of Jazz pa Svenska by Jan Johansson, which is actually just a swedish jazz album nodding to contemporary french impressionism."

Yes, I was referring to this, but since I've never heard the album I can't really say if it has anything to do with early 20th century French music or not... but I can say that the connections between Debussy/Ravel and the title track on Heritage are not very strong.

The best "Heritage" review I have seen yet. Most of the reviews (not just in Sputnik) were either emphasizing on "Why the hell did they change? Fuck Gawd!" or "Opeth are progressive. They will change. So grow up, people!", but this is the review that I really wanted to read. Especially the final paragraph is a gem. It definitely is a mystery as to where they might head towards next.

Good review, man.

what's this you say?! Hail to the thief?! 10,000 days?!... those are some of my favorite albums... I get your point, but terrible references....

Good review, but the summary is a bit clumsy. It's not an "uneasy" step--I'm sure Akerfeldt and company were very confident in their work (who isn't, in their own work?). I'd say a misguided step or something to that effect.

Really good review. I agree with just about everything you say. I think in regards to the direction the band is going, I think we can rule out its being a diversion like Damnation. Their most recent batch of gigs has seen them performing only non-growled songs, which really makes it seem like they want to move as far away from metal as they can.

So this review should be written around how you personally feel but completely neglect the general population? Pretty dumb comment if you ask me. Review is perfect.
