She's def a smart chick no denying that, seems real intellectual and down to the earth in interviews. She def has a really sweet vision and sees music in a pretty interesting way.

re tumblr post:i think all of that is pretty fair. i understand how it could be tiring to be discussed endlessly because she is attractive when really the whole point is her music. i can't help it that she is though.
I won't argue that, but even smart people can fall victim to their ideology and in that case I just think you'll have to differentiate between people who are just genuinely complimenting you because they feel it's the way to express themselves and people who are on the extreme end of the spectrum.
I just think this is one of those things where you'll have to go case by case instead of dismissing it generally, which is what it seemed like to me.
Edit: Just re-read and yeah most of that is sensible and I can see the point, obviously it's a tad polemic and stuff but I just think in some instances such "principled" people need to chill for a minute and evaluate whether that's REALLY such a bad thing. I mean if you request understanding you'll also have to understand the context, inherent differences in communication and its meaning, the background that shaped all of these things and such. I'm by no means advocating this as a justification for derogatory behavior or anything of the like - but we can't just pretend that certain things happen in a vacuum.
'i understand how it could be tiring to be discussed endlessly because she is attractive when really the whole point is her music. i can't help it that she is though.'
Exactly this. I don't call her 'cute' to be endearing cos I think it kinda reflects in her music, its very joyous and as she said "it shoots straight to the pleasure center". All her other points are extremely valid though, female artists in general seem to be judged by their looks rather than their music.
I don't know, I think compliments - even if seemingly superficial - can be quite nuanced. I mean there's more to attractivity than "I want to have sex with that!". I mean, maybe my view is a bit different here since - quite honestly - I couldn't tell you what my sexuality is but I think there's generally a thing about communication that's very.. vague.
I also think there can be a part to that that's more about expression than actually expecting something return, like some people like to rant off about their issues but don't actually care about a response.
I mean the issue of open sexism and treating certain groups of people based on superficial criteria as if they're inept or anything of the like is inacceptable in any circumstance, regardless of what group and preconceived notion is being put forward.
right i'm not saying it's necessarily sexist in itself just to talk about the way a person looks, but i def understand how it could bother that person.
Yeah that's a good view, I guess its entirely depending on the person reading that blog post how to react. Like I've some fans respond to that post as an 'attack' on her fanbase when its quite the opposite tbh.
With regards to her musically, I def respect her alot. Admittedly, I'm not huge into this 'dream pop' scene but I definitely know that Claire's music grips me like no other tbh, nothing to do with her looks cos, as I've said, that's just something that is 'there'.
Ugh, that's just - duh. I mean I advocate for being chill and all that but not being indifferent or unable to handle criticism or automatically interpret criticism as personal attacks.
I mean there's even a whole other level of criticizing a specific behavior of someone in a specific situation, criticizing a pattern on a general level and implying constant attributes of someone/a group regardless of circumstance.
As for the music, I actually didn't like it at first. Then I really dug Oblivion and Genesis (probably still my favorite tracks) and checked out the album. The atmosphere is really.. odd, it's one of those things that makes me feel weird and confused but not necessarily in a bad way. Describing this also sounds super awkward.
See I find this album in particular to be strangely ethereal and an experience I have to listen to in full (most of the time.)
Def stays true to the statement she made about this being 'personal to herself but a different listening experience for each individual listener'.
Well, that's kind of inevitable isn't it - unless you really FORCE a specific meaning on your listener.
Idk, I rarely feel that but I can get super bored quickly and I like to have a lot of versatility - some of my playlists pay no attention to album cohesion. It's more about mood for me but then again, it also depends on the album. I can definitely listen to Genesis and Oblivion on their own, as for the rest I think you might have a point.
Haha yeah I guess dude, but you know what I mean in that the music she creates purposefully evokes a strong association/disassociation reaction from the listener.

That I can definitely see, as I said my first reaction to this was "yikes, what the hell is dreary stuff?"
pfft.. like anybody still cares about hijacks on Sputnik. This whole thing is a hijack.
At least there's some decent music discussion going on, think this is the first time I've ever partaken in something like this lol.
Exactly. Better than nonsensical flaming, trolling or the likes.
Solid transition album.
