I'd say London Calling is way more of a pop record than any Ramones record

People actually thought Ramones were heavy when that shit came out

London Calling is poppy, but its barely even punk compared to their earlier stuff.

It's not pop punk or hardcore like black and white ya know

Punk can be melodic without being pop-punk, that's how punk started

Simple catchy music with a hard edge

pop punk, in the true sense of the term, is a 90s movement. did ramones influence pop punk? certainly. were they pop punk? nope. in contemporary times you can pin them down however you like but at the time they were seen as punk rock groups.

undertones and buzzcocks, same story.

exactly.

I had this lil talk with andcas.

when black sabbath started nobody called them metal. but they're metal now even though metal has changed alot over the years.

the ramones, buzzcocks, undertones, etc are pop punk. they're just older and the genre wasnt named yet.

Pretty big difference between the Ramones, Buzzcocks, and Undertones and shit like early Clash, The Damned, and Sex Pistols.

So then if those guys didnt start pop punk then who did?

Andcas says The Queers. lol.
