Of course repentance is a ballad it's like the only one on SC and beneath the surface isn't that great

Repentance is the calmest song on there by far with no distorted guitars or anything, Ministry is a bombastic and bloated 15 minute epic that only begins as a ballad. Both are album highlights though with Presence of Enemies

repentance is pretty damn dark in every way so wouldn't call it a ballad. it drags waaaaay too much tho

yeah but repentance doesn't have that beauty that ballads often focus on, it's just a gloomy riff going on and on and on and on

Misunderstood isn't a ballad, Disappear is. And the first half of Repentance is easily their best ballad since Scenes

It's a solo that Petrucci wrote and played backwards. I dunno, it doesn't come off as great or anything to me.

As cheesy as it is, I think The Answer Lies Within is a great ballad, the second half lets it down a bit though.

The Octavarium ballads aren't as abysmal as people make them out to be, they're about the same level as Beneath the Surface and Far From Heaven on here. Calming and decent

yeah, it's just the "You're gonna shiiiiiiiiiine" bit that all of sudden ruins the song. The movement after the first 5 minutes in the t/t is also really good

Octavarium is their best song so I would hope so.
