Album Rating: 3.5
Resident Advisor gave some of the best albums of all time 4.5/5's.
This is great fun but not that good, for the reasons outlined above. GBYE is still one of the best footwork songs of the year though

... What the FUCK? I can't remember if I saw that this was #2 on RA and just tried to forget, or if this is my first time seeing that. I mean the rating was fucking weird enough but what is this shit? So many great albums in 2011 and plenty that weren't on the list at all - which would've been fine if this wasn't number fucking 2.

No juke

Album Rating: 4.0
Ok, to me it reminds me of juke cuz of the off-beatyness(idk?), the repetitive looped vocals, and some other stuff.

Machinedrum is the most suited to carry on Rashad's torch

Album Rating: 3.0
Some of the other Teklife members (and Teklife in general) should be much more direct continuations of Rashad's influence. I could also see Kode9 pushing some of that sound a bit with his recent appreciation of Rashad and general footwork.
Machinedrum has a bit of influence from that style, but I think their overall sounds are pretty distinct.

If we're talking straight footwork then yeah (RP Boo [granted he continues recording after Legacy] would be the one to watch considering he basically created the Juke sound) but Double Cup was proof Rashad was just beginning to take that foundation he mastered (and so many emulate in the Teklife crew) and expand it in new, forward-thinking directions. That's why I think Machinedrum is the best candidate to expand upon that sound, a producer who's doing similar things with that foundation and has visions of the future.

I don't really disagree with what you're saying about Machinedrum expanding on footworks foundations. I think they were both stretching the genre's boundaries - only I think they were doing so in very different directions.
Machinedrum definitely is important in carving out a unique style around the fringes of the style, but I don't think what he's doing is a continuation or a "carrying of the torch" for what Rashad was doing.

Gotcha, it's merely a matter of perspective ;)

Yeah, I almost followed up my last post by elaborating further - Machinedrum's experimentations are very similar to Rashads in their intention, but a departure in style compared to the Teklife crew. I guess I was just a little reactionary because I think that if Teklife continues it's already an awesome continuation of Rashad's legacy.

Mhm I agree. Besides, it's pretty trivial to guess who's going to be carrying this sound further, the future will decide that. I'd imagine there's going to be a lot of new talent springing out of nowhere within the next few years, so it'll be interesting to hear where these new guys take it.
