completely in agreement with the review....I'd probably even be a little more harsh.

modern incubus saddens me. some people say they have matured, but i say they are just boring and generic as hell

i think there are some really solid tracks on this album e.g. the title track, 'Tomorrow's Food' or 'Friends and Lovers'. Although they're all very poppy. 'Switchblade' is awful though.

Jesus Christ. People need to stop comparing every single rock band hat take a nosedive with U2

Took a nosedive? Coldplay and Kings of Leon were both absolutely fucking awful bands until they started copying U2.

'I honestly can't imagine the kind of person that would really enjoy these songs; they're devoid of any personality'

That's not a 2.5

You managed to read the review enough to notice that sentence, and not enough to read the sentence immediately after it? Impressive.

This grew on me once I decided to judge it not as an Incubus album.

I tried that, and then came to a similar conclusion that AlexTM did - if this album was by a new band you'd never heard of, it wouldn't even have been trashed, because that band would never even have been signed in the first place.

I think your reaction to this album will be a very common and understandable reaction for any long time Incubus fans. I didn't like the album at all after the first listen. I thankfully gave it a few more spins and have had time to let the nuances of the album become apparent. I have now come to love this album. It is full of great melodies, realized through subtle, yet complex songwriting.

'Great melodies' is exactly what I went in looking for, and I found none, I'm afraid. At it happens, this is arguably their least melodic album, which is a hell of a failing for this style of rock.

However, Incubus hasn't sold out their true identities like U2, but they also haven't created a classic like the RHCP did with Californication.

Wait, when did U2 'sell out' exactly? I despise that phrase, but if you're throwing it around, RHCP are FAR more guilty. People forget how brave some of U2's '90s releases were in terms of how much they were risking alienating their own fans.

Seriously, take the time to read this interview with Mike:

I already did. It made me laugh. So much of it reads like it was written by a focus group.

I thought Light Grenades was their best since Make Yourself.

Morning View is their best, but I tend to agree otherwise - I'm definitely surprised at all the negativity people are aiming at Light Grenades in these comments.

I fail to see how Kings of Leon are anything more than god-awful commercial crap nowadays, but hey good review.

I'd say pack it up and retire now, Incubus.

Oh...you mean this sentence that doesn't make much sense? The one where you say that you can't give it lower than a 2.5 because even at their worst they were at least interesting, and then go on to say that this isn't even as good as that? Thus, you can't give the album less than a 2.5, despite it being worse than when they were previously at their worst. Impressive.

I can't in good conscience give a rating lower than 2.5/5, because it's just too inoffensive for me to hate it - but isn't that just another brutally damning flaw? This is Incubus we're talking about. Even at their worst, they were always interesting. If Not Now, When? can't even offer that.

i completely disagree with this, but it is just a matter of opinion.

This album certainly does not deserve the hate that it is getting. I wish people would listen to something more than once before passing such harsh criticism on it. There is no way that you can catch half of the subtleties that are going on with just one listen.

Never paid much attention to these dudes but I hate it when guitarists justify their unimaginative, dull playing with "I'm just 'playing for the song.'" No, don't 'play for the song,' play something INTERESTING, please.
