I love Lewis' initial ratings :P

This definitely does have more fluff than anything AC have ever done, but it also has the same immediacy of albums like MPP. My only gripe is that Noah's sound this time around comes off as a little emotionally withdrawn, but the shimmering production of the record makes it difficult to notice/care about that at first. It's a pretty record filled with a lot of lifts and feelgood tunes and I think I'll only end up appreciating it more as the weather gets warmer.

You're a good writer, man, but the vocabulary you use seems a little rich for the medium.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna write another review in the next day or two and strip things back a bit. I'm assuming the use of rich vocabulary + the similes/metaphors used in combination is a little too much. I'd rather go for the latter, than the former. But again, I think I started writing that way because people on this site made point that some of my earlier reviews didn't sound "professional" enough. It's a matter of opinion, like anything else, but still. It wont hurt to try a new approach.

i still have yet to fully listen to this lol but thus far i really like a lot of it but some of it seems to be panda's weakest songwriting yet (seems like a result of trying to stuff too much into so little (melody/hookwise). title track has improved immensely but suffers still from this). still a lot of awesome shit but it sort of seems like he just put his guitar through an effects pedal and started playing chords and singing along. which makes this sound nicely "humble" but that's not really what i mean. more just messy.

all of this and i still really like it thus far. anco4ever

fantastic album, although.. my god..... drone and scheherezade get so boring and annoying after a while. but in saying that, they are the only 2 bad songs on the album, which makes the album so good,

needs more Down There

exactly how i feel. This entire album, all i could think is where the hell's avey tare. animal collective > panda bear, just like radiohead > thom yorke. and that's what makes both those bands beautiful

i would agree but person pitch is just about as good as "they" have ever been. down there, even, too.

this just seems tossed off. some of down there did, too, but in a good way. and it was actually

affecting. no moment here ("schehrzade" or whatever included) fucking touches the chorus of "heather

in the hospital". breaks my heart every time. not sure panda bear went for affecting or not. not sure

what he went for at all, which is sort of the problem, i think? this as of now gets a 3.5 on a really

good day. i'm thinking 3, honestly.

last night at the jetty kicks though, and i 2.5d down there at first, too.

i really don't like this at all. but it's just because i'm not in an AC mood.

i read everything you guys said and was like "hey, maybe they're right, maybe this is too detached and unaffecting and strained" and then i listened to it again and i was like "uh, nope.". all eleven tracks are just pure euphoria for me. maybe i'm just a silly fanboy, i dunno

ive always disliked how distant panda bear has sounded on the two solo records i've heard by him. i mean i really liked person pitch but it felt very deliberately made at a distance. but i can't get into this at all.

i'll admit that i haven't really felt an intimate connection to this album yet like i did with Person Pitch, but musically this is just so damn good to me

some of it sounds nice but he either writes a) too many melodies or b) not really a melody at all and

stretches it out for a while. i also don't like the production; i think it does too much to pin down

Panda Bear (down there, opposite). you know, Panda Bear making a Panda Bear album. doesn't

really move anywhere. whatever, i'm spreading too much hate by now. album's alright and i'll probably

five it in a week (robin!!)

edit: pianotuna! young prayer, pronto! the ultimate antidote to "distance".
