^ It would make sense either way. It's so weird how a genre pretty much came out of one city all at once.

Edit: I was a bit late.

I'd recommend reading Rollins tour diaries 'Get in the Van' if you haven't already, really interesting insight into that whole scene

Might do that one day. Hardcore basically started in California and D.C. simultaneously. Black Flag and Dead Kennedys are L.A. and S.F. bands while Minor Threat and Bad Brains are D.C. Then it moved up to New York and a little in England, etc.

Ahh, I haven't listened to a Dead Kennedy's album, plus the origins of straight up Hardcore are fairly new to me. Thanks Porch, I will check that out.

People argue over whether Black Flag or some lesser known band that I can't remember the name of was the first true hardcore punk band. Then apparently the early Black Flag EPs made their way to D.C. and inspired Rollins and MacKaye and I'm assuming that it helped the Bad Brains move towards hardcore since they were playing some sort of jazz fusion at first.

Don't forget about Gang Green up in Boston.

Haven't heard them, but apparently they started in 1980, a few years after Bad Brains, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, and Teen Idles.

True. I thought we were talking about the origins of hardcore in each individual city. Sorry. Will read rest of thread in future, lol.

I don't know much about early Boston. I just know that Boston was/is very central to metalcore's birth.

Rollins is one of the best hardcore vocalist ever. In fact, he probably is the best.|

Also, this album is not overrated.
