This sounds like exactly what Best Coast wanted to do + talent - money

yeah, i feel that way about la sera from this year even moreso than this. it's like crazy for you but it feels a lot less intrusive/more pleasant in a way. plus she's the bassist from this band so it's bound to be great.

i'm just really glad vivian girls went this way though

i really liked certain songs from best coast but i can't tell you what their names are or anything about them.

i've listened to two albums from this band and they have one good song, sorry!!

I tried listening to this. Not very hard, admittedly, but I did try.

I don't get it. It's like a balloon with no air. It's just a string of rubber with some spit still in
it. =(

It's so lifeless it's not even funny. The music never elevates your ears and the vocals are
unimpressive both in emotional exportation and technical impression. A dead deer on the road cares
more about these girls' diary entries than they do.

"these girls' dairy entries" sigh.

I typed diary not dairy... =P

Yeah, didn't sit well with me. I'm sure there are plenty of things I'm missing but it's probably just
not my thing. I don't need some person belittling my opinion on the album simply because they
disagree. Being in the music critic business; you should know better. =)

it's not that i dislike your opinion, i'm fine with it, it just bums me out that you have to call it their 'diary entries'.

although my typo is hilariously stupid.

dairy entires hahaha. =)

I wasn't insulting them, that's how it felt for me. The lyricism wasn't poetic, nor was it without relevance. It genuinely felt like reading a girls' diary full of problems and triumphs be it in love or in friendships . It was kind of interesting in that respect.

At the same time; the way these songs were sung felt like that same girl found her diary years later and read it before throwing it back where she found it.

i mean in a way i get a couple of songs could be taken that way, maybe 'take it as it comes', but it's more just the way you phrased it irked me as if because they were female ("girls") = their music was 'diary entry' stuff. that probably wasn't what you meant but i dunno. i feel like the lyrics here are pretty good for what the album is anyway.

That's not what I meant at all. It could be boys and I'd find the same effect. God, no that's not what I meant. =(

It just had that grounded, earthed feeling of realism. It almost felt vicarious and yeah, the lyrics are good in these respects but I simply didn't like the way they were sung.

yeah i was probably just being overly-sensitive to the phrasing haha. i understand that in places, like i said, (dance if you wanna, take it as it comes), but a lot of this feels less grounded lyrically than their last two. 'light in your eyes', 'death', 'sixteen ways' all have a pretty dark tone i wouldn't pick out of a diary.

really though i just have a soft spot for this band so a 1.5 is probably as many would asses it =(
