Back when I was really into nu metal, this was my all-time favorite album. Some songs are very high quality considering the genre, but overall the album seriously lacks variation.

Aside from that, People = Sh*t, My Plague, and Left Behind are all ace nu metal songs. This album far surpasses anything any other nu metal band has done.

Unfortunately, I don't love it near as much as I used to.

wikuk, you forgot to mention that "Sic" and "People = Sh*t" are almost the same as well.

You know a metal band is bad if they use lyrics in their songs like "I wanna slit your throat and f**k the wound".

As superpeer said in his review, these lyrics are misleading. A lot of people use this as an example of how bad Slipknot is, but the song does follow in this vein at all, and these aren't typical Slipknot lyrics, either. Here is a fair representation of Slipknot lyrics:

Saved - You're such a slave - I don't expect a

Name - You don't care - I wasn't witness -

I can't be a part of a system such as this

Hard eyes - Glow right - In my - Darkness - Again

With the sickness, rengade blisters, sisters,

Salivate, litigate, liberate, madness, sadness

Fuck this - How long have I had this?

I don't need this - Outta my business

Insert, engage, betrayed, MY GOD

FRAUD

Grr! Too long. As you can see, Slipknot does mix intelligent lyrics with more basic ones such as "Get out of my face," but in a consistent way. The only song I can think of that has randomly aggressive and vulgar lyrics is Get This.

I always liked Corey's lyrics. They were well thought out while conveying the "pissed off at the world" message.

Well they're still nu-metal lyrics, but they put Korn and Mudvayne to shame.

They can put Korn to shame, but not Mudvayne. never! Not only does Chad Gray use a massive array of words and metaphors, but his lyrics aren't pissed off 85% of the time. The bottom line is: If you can't like nu metal, then stay away from Iowa. However, if you like hard, non-death metal that has well constructed lyrics and drum beats, Slipknot's Iowa might just be for you. Once again, I think that Mudvayne, Slipknot, and early Korn are the masters of nu metal, and no one can touch them. Bands like Disturbed, Static-X, Adema, today's Korn, etc., just drag down the genre.

I like Mudvayne more musically, but Slipknot always had better lyrics. Korn just influenced all of them.

Thousand points from insect stings, glue my spirit, break my wings...misery. libido steams, infectuous whore, cauterize and forge the sword. remember killing children...learning the secret knock, a nickel to enter that place, the place you would go to take pain away

Lyrics courtesy of Chad Gray, from The End Of All Things To Come's Skrying. Tell me, Thor, if Corey Taylor can write lyrics like that?

Don't base all of Slipknot's lyrics on one bad line.

You know what, Grateful Dead? Once upon a time, a band called the Doors left their amps at a show, because they thought you would let them use their equipment after you at their next show. You didn't. You let them down. Ray Manzarek said, "Someone named Pigpen didn't want me playing his keyboard? Pigpen? I can't give it cooties."

Take that.

Early Slipknot lyrics aren't so deep. Vol. 3 is unbelievably better in the lyrical department.

Okay, it was a joke. [lame]the band Grateful Dead didn't let the Doors use their equipment.[/lame]

Actually, Antihero, I have never researched Skrying. I think the lyrics are mysterious and magical. I suppose I could have chosen lyrics from a song like Death Blooms or Shadow Of A Man.

Slipknots lyrics are very good indeed, i think no one can say their lyrics aren't good (well, actually they can but then they lie). Look for the lyrics from New Abortion, Pulse of the Maggots or Scream (just to name a few)
