Boney, early Smashing Pumpkins is an essential, you clearly love 'beautiful guitar sound' stuff like My Bloody Valentine so to not check 'Siamese Dream' would seem a strange choice

Siamese Dream is on my shoegaze list actually! I enjoy Mellon Collie too, got into that around the same time as this album iirc
Ryus I've only recently started prioritizing checking older music, aside from Radiohead, Wilco and a couple other bands I mostly got into music through contemporary stuff, so my favorite bands are more heavily weighted to the 2000s/2010s indie bands than those of the 90s vintage.

fair enough. i suppose i'm surprised because i prioritized classics when i started getting into music, so i've heard pretty much every fuckin canon album by this point (of course not every one, but quite a few)

Also, as far as 90s music goes, up till now I've spent a lot more time with the alt-country bands of that era than the indie rock ones.

If you like 'Mellon Collie' Boney then I think 'Siamese' might be a 5 for you, got that feeling.

Well Ryus from a certain perspective I am still "getting into" music, I feel like I'm still developing my taste to a large extent and my knowledge of classics is awful.

Doof - I have that feeling too ;-]
I know a couple songs from that one already and I love them. I remember hearing Mayonnaise in the credits of some movie once and being floored by it.

i'm pretty much the opposite. i have very good knowledge of classics and my taste has been pretty solidified, so now i'm just seeking out new music // less-known old stuff
but then again i'm 17 so i'm sure my taste will change greatly

Mayonaise is insanely good but there are another three or four equally amazing songs on there

I've recently hit upon the idea that the span of years from 95-05 (maybe start that with 90 if I'm feeling genreous)is pretty much my ideal musical era and I intend to do a deep dive into it soon.
|
| |
mayonaise is absolutely beautiful but yeah i'd put it on equal footing with hummer, soma, and disarm

Hearing that makes me incredibly excited. I almost think I should listen to that today, but I'm loving Kaputt so much right now and I don't want Siamese Dream to take that over.

Ryus has picked out my top 4, bravo

And actually scratch what I said above, I have pretty clearly defined taste already I just haven't heard all the best examples of that stuff yet.

"Ryus has picked out my top 4, bravo"
hey cool!
i love all those songs dearly, but i dont really dig any of the songs after mayonaise

Silverfuck is decent if I’m in the mood but you’re right, the album is perfect up to Mayonaise then dips.
Still, that’s 9 tunes of near-perfection and so an easy 5 for me
