page turn so:

I warned you weeks ago that your posting habits prohibited people from taking you seriously. 90% of your posts are flippant trolls and you take no ownership of your statements constantly typing your opinions as facts. you can keep ignoring the advice if you want but in the meantime sit this one out Jr.

OK, I don't mean to burst your bubble but I have no idea who you are and have no recollection of ever speaking to you before.

^ you've been on Sputnik for years, you should know better than anyone how many people here automatically dismiss more commercial material in favor of raw, less accessible stuff in an effort to appear cool.

i'm not so sure this is the case (i mean there will always be a few like this), but in general i think it's just an assumption made by those who sit more comfortably on the 'commercial' wall. they tend not to see the appeal and so those who do stray into less accessible and more artsy music are just trying to be cool, because there's no way they can actually like that stuff right?

EDIT: i also want to make it clear i'm not digging at people with more 'commercial' (using this term pretty lightly), taste because opinions opinions opinions

American Idiot is a piece of shit because Green Day tricked a bunch of kids into thinking they were being rebellious by slamming the Bush regime when really that was the most commercially viable thing Green Day could've ever done.

like hey 90% of the world hates this guy lets make an album bashing him and people will think we're anti-establishment. we can stay punk and sell a gazillion albums in the process and 15 year olds will still think they're raging against the machine.

"dismiss more commercial material in favor of raw"

I don't disagree with your statement in general but I don't think it applies to these two albums imo.

"OK, I don't mean to burst your bubble but I have no idea who you are and have no recollection of ever speaking to you before."

No bubble to burst... I digress.

Yeah I know and now Americans are still overruled by that shitty Republican Party. Man I'm so glad I'm not American!

Repubs, Dems -- they both suck. let's not confuse ourselves into thinking this is a good guy vs bad guy thing.

but as Tyler the Creator once said... NOW BACK TO THE ALBUM

since it was pages ago:

I like this one more because it's more consistent mostly. but I do think it's rawness plays a part too -- not because it makes it sound less commercial, but because you can define all of the subtleties and pick apart the arrangements -- where as Nevermind has a lot of songs that aren't that great (although a few classics too) plus the polished sound lowers the replay value for me (you can hear everything in a song with just one or two listens -- In Utero songs can reveal new layers even 5-10 listens later)

plus it just sounds more honest/genuine/passionate to me.

The lat thing I want to do is back green day but perhaps they were simply chagrined that Bush was allowed to steal his election (old news no need for an argument) made a decent pop-punk album and the stars aligned to make it a multi platinum album.

I'm not going to start a huge political discussion or pretend I was a huge fan of George W Bush, who in all actuality was a disgrace to the true Republican party, but what all of the whiny liberal morons forget is that when we went to war, it was overwhemingly supported by both Democrats on Capital Hill and the majority of the American Public alike. People starte crying about it when we didn't waltz in and claim immediate victory like we pretty much did in Desert Storm.

idk which election you're referring to but if you're talking about the recount in Florida then Green Day was about half a decade late on that one.

the reason Bush won the 2nd time was because people aged 50 and over make up about 80% of the voting population here and they were the only ones (for the most part) supporting Bush.

So I should say that Green Day saw that every single young person in America had one thing in common: a dislike for the current president, and they made an album ripping him.

also, for the record, I was never for invading Iraq -- but I was widely insulted for that viewpoint at the time. even by the kids I went to high school with (I was 17 when we started Op Shock and Awe -- lol what a name)

Bush won the 2nd election because Presidents usually don't get voted out of office when we are in the middle of a war, he was just coming off Saddam Huessin's capture, and John Kerry was an extremely weak candidate.

^all of those things helped, for sure. but let's not kid ourselves into thinking that people under the age of 30 voted much before Barry Obama got nominated.

You mean those guys that worship money?

^ No, I mean the guys who are in favor of Capitalism, are anti-socialism, are smart enough to realize you do not strengthen a nation by weakening the wealthy in an effort to strengthen the poor, the guys who know that historically the bigger government gets, the more corrupt it gets and will eventually lead to a downfalll (see almost every empire in history), and who are smart enough to realize that taxing/punishing the wealthy and big businesses will only result in a loss of innovation, jobs, and strength of infratstructure. You absolutely cannot strengthen a nation by punishing/de-incenting its most powerful, influential, intelligent, and innovative members of society in a effort to promote some misguided uptopian ideal of universal equality.

End rant.

hey feit read my post up there I tried... but I got sucked back in!

also, I agree with what Hans just said. the issue happens to be that the wealthy in this country are no longer solely made up of the most innovative and intelligent -- a large percentage are trust-fund babies like Bush. That's what happens when wealth gets passed from generation to generation rather than being distributed to those who earn/deserve it.

I remember a lot of people crying foul from the beginning.

"idk which election you're referring to" "half a decade late on that one."

Both, it is pretty consistently believed that both elections were inaccurate. 2000 and 2004 and album was released in 04'
