The point is, Slipknot isn't death metal. Never was, and probably will never be.

Duh, it wasn't me who said it why are you people accusing me? I said 'back then they were really angry heavy metal'. How do you get Death out of that?

It wasn't me.

opinions are like a-holes...but the truth is, no way this is a typical «nu-metal» album.

^^ That's wht I tried to say. Whoever was dumb enough to assume I said death metal needs to get their head examined.

slipknot were a genre unto themselves, and to a certain extent, still are. the vocals are the highlight for me, corey's a much better vocalist than he gets credit for.

I have to say that Corey Taylor is the only screamer I actually like. Now, I say screamer, but he is actually more of a singer, because is excellent at both. He can scream, he sings low, he sings high, he is a fantastic vocalist, in my opinion. If Slipknot remained with Anders Colsefini, they would not be where they are today. His voice was terrible. Corey Taylor is also a great lyricist.

Corey Taylor? Great lyricist? Cmon, the man's skills at writing lyrics aren't exactly top notch, but he's got his moments. He'll write some really great lyrics in some songs (Prosthetics, Eyeless), but then he'll go and write some incredibly stupid ones (Surfacing, Sic)

actually i can't think of a better lyricist. and the lyrics he made on surfacing aren't stupid, it shows their hate on that song and that they just wanna f*ck it all and they try to be clear which works very well on that song

Hey hey now! That's a wet and wild thing to say. How about, Maynard James Keenan, Chad Gray, Thom Yorke, or a crap load of other songwriters? You 'bout to get slapped.

ocelot, i never said he is the best, but as far as i know i don't know a better lyricist, even maynard.

I don't think you can compare maynard to taylor. Deciphering maynards lyrics requires so much more than Taylors. Thats not taking anything away form him tho. Corey Taylor is one of my favorite vocals in this genre, and I also rather enjoy his lyrics, but I just don't think he's a better lyricist than maynard.

their lyrics are very different so there is no better or worse, it's just what you like more, personally i like maynards lyrics more but i think corey can make more difficult lyricsThis Message Edited On 11.05.05

I, personally, think that maynard lyrics are more thought provoking, as he explores more concepts. Corey's lyrics are more straight forward and tends to stick more towards a couple familiar themes. Corey's lyrics also are much more accessible, as more people can relate to them. But yes, it all depends on what your into.

The best lyricist in metal is undoubtedly Dani Filth.
But that means him and Maynard aren't really comparable. This Message Edited On 11.05.05

You said this is for anyone who likes their metal varied. This isn't a very "varied" album, but it's still enjoyable.
