I don't agree with anything on this review, this album is one of the best metal albums I've ever heard, the change of styles makes this a very dynamic listen instead of boring and "samey", and yeah the lyrics and vocals are top-notch c'mon!
That said, it is a good written review and your thoughts are expressed well I guess... and you got balls to be the only one on the internet to trash the album too XD

I feel like the only one who doesn't like his vocals much.

I think a 2 is overly harsh....

Leach sounds so Arayaish in the verse of Where the Spirit Leads Me.

I tried and I tried to get into this cd....and it sucks. At first I was thinking, this might turn out to be good. Alive or Just Breathing by KSE was a great album. So I figured Adam and Jesse working together might bring back some of that old greatness that KSE used to be. But the further I got into this cd, the worse it got. So generic and unoriginal. I was disappointed to find that nothing special came from this....and KSE has sucked since Jesse left.

End of Heartbreak was pretty ace, but the Leach era was better overall.

It's strange, my first listen, I thought it was very mediocre, and I stopped. Just started re-listening today and I love it. Sure, some songs run together, but it's very, very strong overall... definitely not 2.0 material.

I can't believe it scored that low. Clearly we're not listening to the same album. I agree that metal-core or whatever you call it is an old/jaded genre, but they did try new things, which would definitely not be found in the realm of 'metal-core' not to mention there aren't really any breakdowns on the record. Sure, some of the songs have a kse flavor.. but that's expected when you have the same guitarist and prior vocalist on board. I mean, I think it's natural to assume there would be some of the same elements in this record considering that factor. What did u expect them to do? Start rapping or adding dance beats?imo, the songs are ambitious and satisfy with art-like guitar work, and the musical aspect in general reaches beyond a typical metal-core band. There is something that adds to the music immensely, and those are the lyrics. Not to mention the vocals are catchy as hell, and don't get me started on the passion. At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I'm just stating mine.

i love this cd
review is pretty good though, except for this line:
Metalcore elites may shoot me, but The Hymn of a Broken Man sounds exactly like what Killswitch Engage’s Daylight Dies would have been like if it had actually failed in 2006.
i just feel like "had actually failed" needs to qualified a bit... failed in what capacity?

Good review, a little too negative I think though. It's nothing groundbreaking but it's still enjoyable.

I'm glad Adam D. got to sing more, I've been waiting for him to do that since I first his vocals on The End of Heartache. Jesse's vocals both impress and annoy me; sometimes he uses this really clean soaring voice and it fucking rules so hard and of course his screams slay (they've actually gotten even better) but sometimes he uses these like... gruff cleans that are just kinda blah.
