didn't read the whole review or listen to the album, but your opening "summary" line is the shit.

personally i thought it was pretty good for a record that was recorded on the road whilst playing shows pretty much every night and im sure they had some ideas for songs already but for the most part written on the road during a tour as well, is it plastic beach? nah but that's not what they were going for. this is an experiment, you know what good artist should be doing? that or an ingenious product placement by mac. either way what it shows is an album recorded on something as simple as an ipad can be sitting on your best buy shelf's and other retailers that sale pretty much whats "on the list". so to me it gives hope to an up and coming generation of artist that may be looking for a new way or getting their music out there and effecting said medium you can now record your music on.

I agree that the method of recording is a great idea and a boost for people who are that way inclined. Personally, it's the music that is a let down. I've no doubt that one 'iPad only' album in the future could be a corker. We'll see.

Don't hang up on a band that has done nothing but progress from the beginning. Sure, this was premature, just a year after the ground breaking Plastic Beach, and probably a little gimmicky (being recorded all on an iPad just sounds like a silly idea when you have such a vast array of musical tools at your fingertips, but what the hell do I know, I'm not in a huge band.) but this is for sure not the end of the Gorillaz. you can not possibly think when they hit the studio again to craft another album that they will really produce this simplistic of an album, do you.... I certainly don't. But hey, that's just me.

Really good review. "Gorillaz was founded on its sense of collaboration and willingness to experiment. The latter element is present, the former is not (...) it’s a Gorillaz album in name only," sums the album up perfectly!
