Paschendale is my favourite song ever. It is awesome like me.

But you're right, the album art is ugly.

Rainmaker is great. Not sure whether I like the guitar lines or the vocal lines more.

This album definitely gets better towards the end. The first three songs are nothing special, and the opener is extremely bad IMO. However, after that, the album really kicks off and doesn't drag on anywhere. Definite highlights include 'Dance of Death, Paschendale, Age of Innocence and Journeyman

This is without a doubt Maiden's best out of Brave New World, Dance of Death, and A Matter of Life and Death. It runs circles around Virtual XI, The X-Factor, Fear of the Dark, and No Prayer For the Dying, and comes up to par with Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son of A Seventh Son. Up the Irons!!!

haha, i knew it was coming. ^^^Because my rating system for album is not an average of the songs, its an appreciation of the album as a whole. (and this one kick a$$, so 4.5 is my rating)

I feel like this is one of their more underrated albums. Dance of Death is better than 'Piece of Mind' or 'Powerslave' in my opinion. This album is very dynamic. Every song is extremely powerful. The opener, Rainmaker, No More Lies, Gates of Tomorrow, New Frontier, The Age of Innocence... absolutely amazing.

Their best album since Seventh Son, I think. Nice progressive elements, lots of variation and melody, great vocals and great solos.

I agree with the reviewer, (best album since Seventh).

Paschendale is my favorite song here, only later I found out the song was about the famous WW1 battle around the village of Passendaele (those freakin' English lads couldn't resist to pronounce it like "passion" :-S )

I Hhave a friend who lived in that village for a couple of years, a very quiet an d peacefull place, even with the dozens of English veterans visiting the nearby graves day by day.

This album is so underrated and underappreciated, the musicianship is better than any of their earlier releases. Give the song Paschendale some time and it will be a classic.
