I already explained it earlier.
"I did use myself sparingly in the first and last paragraphs atavan, and I think it adds to the review seeing as it shows the approach to listening and analyzing the album that I do now."
I mean if you want me to go into further detail I can but you never answered that soooo...

Good album, almost picked up a book about this dude the other day.
Agree with Atavan for the most part.
Hearing people talk about themselves is often boring, but reading about people talking about themselves is oftentimes worse. Unless it's like a memoir or something, then it's alright.

atavan you have this same complaint with the best of reviews i really think its time you learned that
its you, not them
Yeah, I'm really going to get taken to school by the resident troll. Maybe I'll score some hot tips off theacademy or Enrique later on?
the worst thing a reviewer can do is skew the first person (in an OPINION piece)
Yeah, you don't know anything about writing, do you?
THIS is an opinion piece: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2003/sep/08/fairtrade.wto6
THIS is a review. They are two different things.

It doesn't add to the review, and it would work better if you deleted it.

"It adds a personable touch and makes the review more enjoyable to read."
I stand by my earlier statement. Good review, Sea.

okay i realize that nominally an "opinion piece" is something featured in a newspaper like that that
usually deals with that sort of thing but what i mean is like
a piece of writing that is an opinion
oh hey a review of music
music is undeniably a personal experience but you seem to want to disregard that in favor of, i dont
know, "journalistic integrity" or something because you used to write persuasive essays in 8th grade
and your teacher liked them. the first person (unless it's the plural first person used to force
agreement on the reader shudder) is completely appropriate for music and talking about such
|
| |
ok you keep saying the same things atavan without actually replying with an explanation. I mean I know it's sputnik and nobody likes almost-paragraphs, but some explanation would be helpful : )
and sorry shadow, I really DO appreciate the criticism : )
and thanks conrad, I agree, that's an important point too

@DiceMan as good as his music is his poetry is just incredible. Like some of the best stuff I have ever read.

Okay, I'll get back to you when I have a slight idea of what the fuck you are talking about. In other words, I'm not getting back to you.
ok you keep saying the same things atavan without actually replying with an explanation. I mean I know it's sputnik and nobody likes almost-paragraphs, but some explanation would be helpful : )
What the fuck do you want? I told you what I don't like and why I don't like it. What exactly do you need?

i dont know, "journalistic integrity"
does this make sense

agreement on the reader shudder) is completely appropriate for music and talking about such

does this make sense
ok good

why are you so mad :C

He's saying that writing music criticism (any criticism, for that matter) isn't the same as writing, say, a news piece.
Since you're stating your opinion on the record/film/art at hand, it's acceptable to employ the first person. After all,
the entire basis of the review is your personal thoughts, right? I know we all talk about objectivity versus subjectivity
but at the end of the day, we write positive reviews because we like something and negative reviews because we
don't.

... ugh ok atavan. not gonna win this one. I'll just let it go.
YOU WIN HOORAY
|
