"I think it's mostly the production that hurts Serpent tbh. It's very odd-sounding, unbalanced in the mix and lacking in atmosphere"

I disagree so much with this. The production on Serpent is one of the reasons I love it as much as I do. It's daunting at first but once you start getting to know it the whole album just opens up and sucks you in unlike any other they've done.

Serpent is a rock album. That's where most of the critique for the record stems.

i missed a lot, but i'd like to say the serpent is both their most bloated and least inspired sounding album. it has probably the fewest number of good ideas stretched across (what feels like) the longest runtime, even though it's tied with ashes for being their shortest.

i don't agree at all someguest, a lot of the critique has been that it feels unspired, it's boring, and generally just feels like the band going through the motions

i'm with art, it just doesn't feel like the band was "there", for lack of a better word. like they recorded, but the cohesiveness of the band was gone

It's not boring though. I mean I guess everyone else feels like that, but I don't hear it. Same with the argument that it's uninspired.

it's not a bad album. but it's also not good enough or different enough to be worth listening to instead of Ag's other albums.

"The only songs that are really subpar on that album for me are Vales and Plateau. The rest of it is about on par with this album."

Vales yes, but Plateau? Might be my favorite from that record.

Yeah, that's how I feel as well. Still a good record

I see where you're coming from and could potentially agree there but Ghosts was instantly more memorable than Monolith. Even after having listened to the album so many times I have to think pretty hard to remember what that one sounds like
