special edition with expansive artwork, making of DVD and bonus tracks came in the mail today. artwork is so sick...album still rules. a man with a hammer, i never liked anyone, hydra, myth of a christian nation and you're like a taxi are all perfect.

if no sir didn't have the sentimental value to me that it does i wouldn't know where to rank it. but since it does, it's been my favorite album of all time since 2006.

the portion of the record i didn't care for as much (time to go, basically) is finally growing on me.

when did you see them last?

this tour is different (like any of their tours)...the only lighting is what's projected on a screen behind the drums. at one point all the lights go out and they tell you to activate your flashlights (they tell you beforehand to bring one). i like it a lot...some people hate on the fact it's not a spastic set like they've done before, but the band constantly changes so i wouldn't be surprised if they did something even crazier than the spastic sets in the future.

they prefaced playing myth of a christian nation at cornerstone this year with "This song is for the
upcoming 4th of July celebration." lol

i got a chance to hear the two opening tracks from cancer, it's incredible stuff, and not just for showbread fans.

"I'm Afraid That I'm Me" is all over the place. at 7 minutes long it explores quite a bit of directions. it somehow all makes sense though, being that cancer is a "glam rock sci-fi concept" album. "Sex With Strangers" is a raw, edgy track reminiscent of refused (nothing new there, right?) well actually, yes. they're meddling with yet another facet of their sound. imagine the darkness had a baby with refused and sprinkle some queen in there.

yeah the screams are back. and his cleans are great, too...there's definitely much more variation in the vocals this time around. there's also a good bit of gang vocals. this album is going to be a monster.

finally had a chance to listen to the entirety of cancer. 7-8 listens in, i'm completely blown away. this is an album that will cater to hardcore fans because of their dedication to operating in true showbread form (i.e., relying on mediums other than music like film, refusing to adhere any one genre, bold and dark lyrics, etc) but it will also finally turn everyone else on to them. it's good music guys, and i think the album will be much better received here than their previous stuff.

cancer is so good. review hopefully coming tomorrow (street date).

i guess that makes sense, given that cancer is a sci-fi concept album/movie. unfortunately i won't be able to tie in much of the concept to my review until the movie comes out.
