Automatic For The People >> this
|
| |
maybe, probably not. losing my religion is still the goat.
|
| |
imo r.e.m. never really reached their potential of making a perfect album.

Losing My Religion really is the thing. One of my all-time favs and definitely my favorite R.E.M. tune. But Automatic is just so damn consistent, no bad track. Out Of Time has things like Belong, Radio Song or Country Feedback (I know everyone loves that). I can't stand those.
Actually I'd add Document > Out Of Time, but I'm not an R.E.M. maniac so that's it with my knowledge of their discography (apart from the rather messed up Green)

there's def some duds on automatic. ignoreland is just shitty clunky rock, new orleans instru is a waste of space like most REM instrumentals. everybody hurts=insta skip
there's a couple of turds on this album but i dig its schizo change ups between bubblegum type stuff and songs like country feedback and low

Everybody Hurts is pretty damn good.
Can't disagree on Ignoreland. Decent track, it just doesn't fit in at all.
Only one that really bugs me though is Star Me Kitten.
|
| |
used to overlook star me kitten but it eventually became one of my favs from that album

Can't stand Stipe in that song and he's pretty much all there is, so...

nah mills backing vox are crucial but it has some other cool aspects as well

'Low' is such a tune...

almost up to this one, loving document

I still need to check out some of their earlier albums. I probably prefer their rockier style.

Earliest I've heard was Lifes Richest Pageant, and it was great, my 2nd favorite so far after
Automatic. (I've heard everything from Lifes-Autpmatic)
