i meant the overall orchestration. it'll be like why the fuck is there a string swell here or i don't get why that big ass sub hit is supposed to work against a violin and shit yeah

also, the autotune ain't that bad the more I listen to it. I mean, it's really short and it falls into a sweet hip-hop beat before getting really happy again.

I'm convincing myself to 5 this, I think. I have a really convoluted reason that will be my review and it's based around modernism.

Weird. I wrote a short intro to a review for this and I based it around postmodernism 0.o

postmodernism doesn't exist, though.

lol that's what my modernist prof says anyways. I don't completely buy into it, I mean something has changed, but in all honesty there isn't really anything different between postmodernism and modernism. Sure styles have changed, but we're still filled with that existential dread.

It's alternately damning and mind blowing, I wouldn't say very bad by any means

I would say that postmodernism involves a degree of self awareness that modernism may not have.

are you kidding me? modernism aimed to progress art by destroying its conventions; postmodernism destroyed art entirely. postmodernism is ugly, vile, nihilistic, obsessed with pop culture, and spiritually bankrupt.

nihilism at its most basic and rational thought is just the rejection that morals or standards are objective.

Jameson said that postmodernism was an acceptance of an event as it is, as opposed to considering said event's cultural significance, etc. Sort of an "it is what it is" approach, I suppose?

asdjfksdjf I can't remember exactly what he said, but I think it's something along those lines.

i love this so much. i know this album will piss of a lotta sufjan fans, but i think this transition feels right. he's released enough folksy acoustic based stuff for one decade, so i like that's switching it up. and he still incorporates those gorgeous sufjan touchstones: choirs, horns, strings. it's all there and it's all fucking gorgeous. i especially like when the chorus of voices rises into beautiful chaos, like at the end of "I Want to Be Well", and from 13:00 to about 19:00, the last song is absolutely incredible.

A+ sufjan.
