I believe in the Dream theater biography, it is said that A Change of Seasons is about The importance of Carpe Deim and the death of MP's mother. A Change of Seasons is such an amazing track...Especially the part at 15:12. "I'm sick of all you hypocrites...".That part in particular is so incredibly emotional.
Though in all honesty, I've never listened to any of the covers on here. When I listen to this., I only listen to the title track.
Haha.....I just came in here to recommend X-Japan's Art of Life, and I see I've already done it.
I must give my judgement on this album.
A Change Of Seasons = one of the best songs of all time.
The rest of the album = useless wank.
I give it a 3/5 overall. A version without the bonus tracks, though, would get a 5/5 without any hesitation whatsoever.
With the exception of "Perfect Strangers" i must say i agree with you.
Another nice 1/5 from our technical wankists.
Looks like he only made his account to say that. What more needs to be said? This Message Edited On 08.14.08

Just a note the reason why Perfect Strangers sounds odd is because, Myung is playing the Keyboard, Sherinian is playing the Guitar, Portnoy the Bass, and Petrucci the Drums.

I prefer Octavarium (the song) tbh, that's without a question my favorite song ever. This may be more impressive on a technical aspect but Octavarium's title track just has that sheer, epic, goosebump inducing atmosphere that makes it so perfect. While tis song definitely has it, it doesn't amount to Octavarium imo. This is still a damn near perfect song however, and one of my favorites ever.

Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft, Octavarium is a bunch of mini songs stuck together. A Change of Seasons doesn't have that disjointed feel - it's the one theme, it's a real song.
Anyway, I declare this EP a 4/5, mainly for the title track of course. The covers aren't too bad, but I'm they're prone to being skipped over. This Message Edited On 11.15.08

This will probably sound blasphemous to most Dream Theater fans but I don't even really even like the title track. I got through 13 minutes of it and was bored to tears. I plan on giving it a relisten in the future but as of now I don't remember a single part of what I listened to. As far as Dream Theaters 15 min+ epics go I'd much rather listen to Octavarium.

A Change of Seasons is my favorite Dream Theater song.
If only the lyrics weren't so cheesy...

I actually quite like the lyrics on ACoS. They're a lot better than what they write now at least.
And yeah, it's a race between ACoS and Octavarium as my favorite Dream Theater song, and possibly my favorite song off all time.

The title track is the best thing DT has recorded.

Review is quite nice as a whole, but just to inform you, the lyrics of the title track examine a mans life, from his youth in the former movements, through to his aging into an older person and becoming more cynical and realizing that his life has been drained. This is kinda obvious, in that in the final movement, he "Sits down with his son".

One of DT's best. I view the EP as an EP, so the 4 goes out to the title track only. Great song, not Odyssey but great songwriting and the gay vocals of LaBree don't interfere that much.

Is this song post labrie fucking his voice up? cause he sounds great here, but he's not exactly going for those super high's you hear on Awake and Images and Words. anyone know?

Oh, and for whomever wrote the review, the song A Change of Seasons is about Mike Portnoy's mother dying and how it changed
his life, him dealing with it and his reactions to the automated responses of people who try and console him about his loss.
