Yeah, I absolutely love Draining The Waterheart

I've only heard The Tatterdemalion Express a few times, but it's also very good.

I haven't heard First River Regards yet. It's probably pretty good, though.

Why do most of the talented doom bands ditch the genre?

because it gets old fast

If you think that, then obviously you don't listen to doom much.

I don't think that listening to it is the problem, it's playing it. Even really good bands (IMO) like Void of Silence or Colosseum don't play music that I would consider fun to play.

That's cause Funeral Doom is MUCH different to play than Death Doom. Not that VoS is FD, but they use a lot more ambient then your average Traditional Doom band which makes it a lot slower then Death Doom.

My personal preference however is Funeral Doom. Arcana Coelestia's album last year mixing the shoegaze and Funeral aspects is one of my all time favorites at the moment. And it seems like it would be hella fun to play.

I haven't heard that one, but I'll check it out. My favorite doom band is Longing For Dawn. They do a really good job with the ambient/funeral doom thing.

I highly recommend it dude. It's a bit under produced, but that does not usually put me off for Doom, as it could for other genres. Just listen to 'Duskfall' and you will get a general idea of what the album sounds like.

I love the way that song ends with that warped piano part.

Nah. I've never been much into doom metal, so I'm only familiar with a couple of the big names and even then I haven't listened to them in a few years.
