I'm maybe the only one who skips tighter and tighter, too bluesy for me.

That song and burden in my hand are the only songs that I skip on the album the rest is fine, even dusty.

"first half of this album is top notch
second half is regular notch" [2]
I think Burden in my hand works really well, especially right after BUTOW.

Lots of experimentation, mixed results, but very few memorable songs.

That's actually the whole point of soundgarden.

This album screams more than any, how Soundgarden was certainly the middle point between Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. Just as melodic as both, as heavy as the latter, as eclectic as the former. RIP Chris

Tighter & Tighter is my favorite Soundgarden song
How could a fan of Soundgarden skip it :/

Top 10 for me Ars, possibly even top 5 (though I've only heard this, Superunknown, Badmotorfinger, and King Animal)

Listened to this for the first time in a long while hoping to bump it...can't bring myself to. This is how I'm feeling it compared to Superunknown...
Down on the Upside [3/5]
1. Pretty Noose [4/5]
2. Rhinosaur [2/5] (written by the drummer, yup)
3. Zero Chance [4.5/5] (sorta like a return to Fell On Black Days...it's actually better than FOBD too)
4. Dusty [3.5/5]
5. Ty Cobb [3.5/5] (fun for a bit, annoying by its conclusion)
6. Blow Up the outside World [4/5] (Beatles worship but decent enough if a little cheesy/obvious)
7. Burden in My Hand [4/5] (has that nice Eastern feel that's the band's main selling point imo)
8. Never Named [2.5/5] (a Shepherd song I sadly don't really dig, sounds like a bad Pearl Jam tune)
9. Applebite [3/5] (just a mood piece really, and overlong, still on the fence with it 20 years later)
10. Never the Machine [3/5] (a poor man's Rusty Cage, just sounds a bit of a mess at times)
11. Tighter & Tighter [3/5] (old school Soundgarden, lame chorus of 'sleep tight for me, I'm gone' meh)
12. No Attention [2.5/5] (butt average punk number)
13. Switch Opens [3.5/5] (nice tone to this one but a bit of a nothing song)
14. Overfloater [4/5] (more old school material, very cool vocal delivery from Cornell)
15. An Unkind [2.5/5] (what happened with some of Shepherd's song writing here?)
16. Boot Camp [4/5] (really like this short album closer, epic and intimate all at once)

Superunknown [4/5]
1. Let Me Drown [4/5] (strange opener in some ways, solid churner)
2. My Wave [4/5] (a little underrated/forgotten)
3. Fell On Black Days [4/5] (used to be my favourite when I was 16...not anymore)
4. Mailman [4/5] (some Sabbath worship, correct change of pace/tone at track 4)
5. Superunknown [4/5] (is this really a bonus track? Essential element of the album imo)
6. Head Down [5/5] (the best Soundgarden song is a Shepherd lyrics/music credits double whammy)
7. Black Hole Sun [4.5/5] (in a pacing masterstroke, boom, it's their mega hit)
8. Spoonman [4/5] (disposable and kinda kooky but...it's something different, and welcome for it)
9. Limo Wreck [4.5/5] (this is how you record an epic)
10. The Day I Tried to Live [4/5] (the other hit, great vocal performance obvs)
11. Kickstand [3.5/5] (solid punk workout, hated it when I was 16)
12. Fresh Tendrils [4/5] (old school one, could have been on Badmotorfinger, great great chorus)
13. 4th of July [4.5/5] (lordy, this is close to a 5, this is truly the soundtrack to a black sabbath)
14. Half [3.5/5] (enjoyable experimental track, wisely the second shortest song running time though)
15. Like Suicide [3.5/5] (never a massive fan of this one, guess it takes more significance now...)
16. She Likes Surprises [3/5] (she likes the Beatles, throwaway tune that's ok actually)
So Superunknown remains, to my mind, a great deal better than Down on the Upside which really could have lost four or five songs from the tracklist and ended up better for it.

"You think Head Down is the best thing on Superunknown? Lolwut"
He's right, although "4th of July," "The Day I Tried to Live," and "Limo Wreck" run it real close

I don't really like Rhinosaur, it plods, but it does have that Led Zeppelin section in it...maybe I was a bit harsh.
'Head Down' just has that eastern vibe, it's so unconventional too, love it

If your biggest criticism about Tighter & Tighter is the chorus you maybe pay attention to the best parts: the guitar and psych effects which are I why I love it
