I love the songwriting on this album, but I find the production a little off-putting. The distorted guitar parts are washed out and off in the background most of the time, except during solos. (Having said that, I think the production works perfectly for songs like Water and Puke and Cry.) I know J admitted that nobody really knew what they were doing when this album was produced. This would likely be my favorite Dinosaur Jr album if the mix were either tighter + fuller like in Where You Been or louder and more distorted like Bug or YLAOM.
