Yeah, wham. These guys are great. You really can't go wrong with first 4 albums. They're classic. I also really like "Nude" from '81 and some of their latest era, namely "Harbour of Tears", "Rajaz", and "A Nod and A Wink".

@wham49. I advise you to begin with their four first albums, Camel, Mirage, The Snow Goose and Moonmadness. Then you may go to their best album of the 80's, Nude. Finally you must end with their last four albums, Dust And Dream, Harbour Of Tears, Rajaz and A Nod And A Wink.
These are probably the best albums and they give to you a perfect perspective of their musical career.

wham, the first four are the essentials, I'm one of the very few that sees their debut as one of their best but I think there's a consensus on it being their most accesible. Mirage is probably their best one overall though and if you dig it you'll probably dig this one too. The Snow Goose is not even close to the quality of the three I've already mentioned but it is still an essential album

@SirLord. I agree that the first four are the essential albums. They belong to their golden age. However, we can't discard the last four, which are all also great, and they give to us a different and more modern perspective of the Camel's sound. In my humble opinion, Camel is one of the few great bands of the 70's that has got made a real good and interesting musical career, and that has successfully overcome the trauma of the pos-punk period.

Yeah I also dig some of their more unknown work, Rajaz is an excellent album too, haven't checked Nod and a Wink though. I also really enjoy Rain Dances, I think it is kinda underrated; sure they took a more commercial sound but it is pretty well done in some songs, First Light and One of These Days I'll Get an Early Night are classics for me

Yeah, I agree. After the first four and the last four studio albums, Rain Dances and Nude are their next best studio albums. I insist on Nude, because I really think that it's an excellent concept album, usually forgotten and unknown.

Yeah, do that man. The concept is based in a real story about a Japanese soldier who was lost in a desert island after the end of WWII. It's about is difficulty of adapt again in the civilization and in his family where he lived before the war. I think it's a very touching story that makes us think about our civilization values. Musically it's a very good album with great and very beautiful musical moments. A very good and interesting album of the 80's, a terrible and troubled time for prog, as you know.

It's all a matter of taste Jamie. The Snow Goose is 2nd best after Moonmadness. Mirage is in the 3rd place.
