If I'm picking up the band's albums, would I be best starting with the 40th anniversary series?

vinyl or that, the 40th Anniversary remasters for Lizard and Islands are the better mixes. The other ones you could go for either version, whether it be the original mix or the remasters.
Don't go for the 80s/90s reissues though.

Thanks man, since I don't have a record player (yet) I'll go for the 40th anniversary.

yeah man no problem, the remasters are done by Steven Wilson and I think they're on Beat atm

all the songs on the remaster are a bit longer the t/t is like 50sec longer and includes the full and the shorter version of Moonchild

yeah I'm split on the remaster cutting three minutes off of Moonchild. I get the gripe with the improv, but I didn't see cutting it necessary.
|
| |
they shoulda cut as soon as the song ends and the improv shite begins agreed

Finally giving this a listen, loving it so far and definitely hearing all the influence it has had on so many bands I've grown up loving like Tool, Meshuggah, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, etc.

Yep it's nice. Undertow kinda has a similar drumming sound to this imo

This is all over Opeth's Heritage, yeah I can definitely hear the influence on Carey's drumming.

If it wasn't for the stupid improv stuff in the last two tracks I'd 5 this. Many prog records take so much influence from this honestly.
