i actually think this is one of his best things he's ever done. i find every moment to be amazingly beautiful. his vocals remain heartwrenching, for me. "alesund" and "third and seneca" are just incredible. and yes, his guitar playing is almost unmatched in the world of music. his prowess on the instrument makes me very jealous. :P

I'm half way through and idk what you're talking about. He needs to keep things more interesting in terms of the music with just his solo guitar, I mean, think about Blue Orchids on April.

| |
so observer just heard this today right
|
| |
no, its been around before the stream
|
| |
So apparently I should pick up April, eh?
|
| |
I know you enjoy Ghosts, I think, so April is a definite yes. This is definitely worth checking out too if you're a fan, as others, reviews and fans, have liked it more than I have (and less too)
|
| |
Well, even if it's just a 3/5 for me I think I'd be content, if not a little bit disappointed at first, because everything I've heard
from him has been incredible. Ghosts is a 4.5 for me, yet I haven't heard all of April, just Heron blue and moorestown
|
| |
Be sure to go for Lost Verses, Tonight The Sky, and Blue Orchids as well on April.
I have it at a 4, something about it just doesn't click like Ghosts, but I enjoy every track
|
| |
I'm going to pick this and April up as soon as I get a chance. What are your favorites on Ghosts? I think my favorite will always be Carry Me Ohio
|
| |
That's a great one. The Last Tide and Floating combo is always a great listen, as well as Gentle Moon. The whole of Duk Koo Kim, especially the chorus and the end of the song, is probably the best Kozelek has ever done imo.
|
| |
Duk Koo Kim is my second favorite, and I agree that it's probably the best thing he's pit his name to, but Carry Me Ohio was my introduction to him and that particular style of music, so. Also, Floating and Gentle Moon are so good

Lost Verses from April was the first thing that got me into him, but for some reason I skipped Ghosts and went back to Red House Painters' stuff first before coming back. I enjoy a lot of it, especially Ocean Beach, but SKM is definitely my fav

when did this come out?
|
| |
My favorite RHP songs are Down Through and Mistress (piano version).
|
| |
when did this come out?
its not out until the 13th
My favorite RHP songs are Down Through and Mistress (piano version).
Mistress is great, though my favs are Katy Song, San Geronimo, Drop, and Moments (last three are on Ocean Beach)
|
| |
See I like Katy Song a lot, but I don't see how everyone finds it to be the best. Down Through evokes so much emotion (and it's so much fun to play on guitar) =]
|
| |
You should give Drop and the first half of Moments a shot, pretty heavy with emotions imo. Haven't played my guitar in a while
|
| |
I haven't played in a while either, and it almost seems like a daunting task, which isn't how I should ever feel about something I love so much.
|
| |
I've been meaning to listen to some Sun Kil Moon a while ago. What is a good starting point?
|
| |
start with Ghosts of the Great Highway
