Album Rating: 2.0
Sorry Bulldog, I listened to the entire thing, and its pretty bad. I really gave it a shot, given how much you liked it.
The only reason I gave this a 2.0 is because 1) At least the dude is trying something different 2) shows his strange personality without concern for accessibility 3) not the typical content (for this sort of artist, at least)
To call this poetry is VERY generous; inane spoken-word is more accurate. I was not impressed technically nor affected emotionally by his words, which are delivered at a sputtering drone. There is so little skill on display - he really may be feeling these words, but its so simplistic it comes across as half-assed. Oh, and any time you have to keep reminding your audience how "amazing" the music is... well, it should speak for itself.
The whole album is very pretentious, which is okay with me if its delivered in a thoughtful way (e.g. Immortal Technique). For example, "I have saved hip hop" is presumptuous and terribly pretentious, but it gets worse: when he says his upcoming album will be "the best hip hop album to ever come out in hip hop history. Ever. The most influential, and game-changing album to ever come out. Most honest and emotional album...." like, cmon dude, fuckin really?! I hope your being sarcastic. If not, your going to have to work a lot harder than this.
Finally, the production is rather lo fi and minimalist, which you usually dont like, right? I actually kinda like the production though, it just doesnt fit with the lyrics.
