i was going to try and not get sucked into this controversy... dammit

i've only heard a few songs off of this, and i can already tell i won't really like it (even though i really liked new wave). for me, the issue isn't whether or not against me! sold out; the music simply isn't exciting or unique anymore (again, based on the few songs i'ved heard). several other bands have "gotten soft" or "sold out," but they still make interesting music (AFI, foxy shazam, big d and the kids table come to mind).
certainly i'd expect their music to evolve and all that, this just doesn't do it for me.

I would say that this music is probably more interesting than Big D or AFI's new music. I haven't heard Foxy Shazam yet, so I can't say. But I just don't care for Big D's new music and AFI still just sounds like every other chart-topping androgynous-singer-fronted band.

I Was A Teenage Anarchist is their best song since Pints Of Guiness Make You Strong.

I think they should be ashamed, they were such sex-pistols level anarchists back in the Reinventing Axl Rose. Now they moved on mainstream...

lol indeed. Why does everyone think they turned their back on anarchism? Its obvious from Teenage Anarchist that Tom felt they were/he was pushed out of the 'movement'.

I saw AM! for the first time in 3 years Saturday night because a friend of mine wanted to go and didn't have anyone to go with. I was pretty hesitant to go, thinking the set list would be WC dominated and it was like 42 bucks (I saw them for 15 at the door last time), but I'm glad I went. They played maybe 5 songs off this, but I liked the set list considering. Lots of old classics. And Tom playing Joy in the encore by himself was especially awesome.

Anyway, I guess the point is that my recent resentment for AM! has subsided quite a bit and while I'm still not the biggest fan of this album it's not as bad as I initially thought.

This happens to me all the time and probably everyone, you always judge the book by it's cover, here's what i mean, you listen to an album for the first time and you do not pay attention to it and you make an advance judgment, but sometimes when your mind is clear and light and you give it another chance you will be shocked that you made that faulty judgment on such a masterpiece.

Album sucks ass regardless of 'selling out' of against me!, chance to make some great music with George Rebelo taking over the drumming and fell flat on their faces. Started putting effects on Tom's voice so it just sounds like a mindless drone instead of a distinct voice to go with the riffs. Anyone who didn't like new wave for the reason that it was high production could at least give it a listen cause it still sounded like the band with Tom's voice. Now even that is gone. Still one of my favorite bands, but guess every band shits the bed every now and again
