Was OM really that groundbreaking? The singer had talent (even though his lyrics were just okay), and their guitarists wrote a few songs that played well, but they had nothing close to instrumental talent and technique of this band. And their screamer BLEW.
Plus, they only made one album and died. :/

Oh no, don't get me wrong, Of Machines was definitely overratted and overhyped, especially on this site, but that doesn't change the fact that they progressed the genre scene for the better.
Oceana's Latest > Of Machines' Only > The Color Morale's Only > Our Last Night's Latest
Innnnn terms of contemporary scenecore

Ohhh noooo, an Oceana kid??? I can't get past how much I hate their singer. He's horrible, dodgy on notes, and completely boring live, and their musicians are on par with most of the scene (if not a little bit slower).
The Color Morale has a good Jonny Craig-ish lead singer. I don't think he's horrible at screaming, but they chug A LOT. The first song on their album hilights everything that is musically wrong with the scene today.
I enjoyed Of Machine's album, about as much as OLN's latest.

I'm an Oceana kid too. they are awesome. Brennan is a great vocalist. I love TCM's vocalist singing, but can't stand the screaming. they would be way better if he stuck to singing. proof is in their song "Hopes Anchor". there's a guest screamer and it sounds so much better than him. And thanks Steven and TheThinIce for the feedback.

Yeah, I know right? Brennan is a much worst vocalist than Matt or Trevor, who can't scream without hurting his throat, or pop punk vocals that have no variation whatsoever. But you know, you're right.
And the first song on TCM only sounds bad because the first 30 seconds or sommat was chugging. I like the screaming, it sounds raw. But the singing is much better.
Of Machines is overrated, but much better than this genericfest.

Wow, after giving TCM another listen, I am bored to death.
In every song, its the same moan by the singer (not to mention his use of autotune). The guitars strive to be creative by not palm muting...so instead, they just chord quickly (woah!). In every song, expect the lead guitar to come in near the chorus with some type of high melodic lead. The screams are fun for awhile, but then you realize they're the same as The Word Alive's, but more sloppy and with less depth.
No mindblowing moments and the same formula for every song except Resource, which is a melodic bore. These kids, like a lot of other metalcore bands, never learned how to pick!
If you want to see TCM's music done with more technique and talent, look up The Word Alive's album "Empire".
I'm not even gonna get started on Oceana. I admit OLN's album is not close to amazing, but relative to those two bands...I mean, come on.

They were great. I'm digging this album.

trevor sucks at screaming. band would be 100x better without him

^ this. it's hard to give this a very good rating solely because of his shitty screams. it sounds like half of his throat is closed off. yikes.
