Agreed with Doof. Cardinal Song, Lucky You, and Available are all top tier National songs. The rest are decent but nothing particularly special.

Those are probably the other ones I like too, especially 90-Mile and Slipping. I haven't revisited the whole album in a while, I have it at a 3.5 but it could be a solid 4 thinking about it now.

I really need to get on Sad Songs, I remember enjoying the two or three songs I've heard from it ("Available," "Sugar Wife" and I think maybe "Trophy Wife?")

For now I've only heard their big four but here's my ranking:

High Violet - 10/10

Alligator - 9.3/10

Trouble Will Find Me - 8.3/10

Boxer - 7.9/10

It's certainly a great record with hints of that special National magic, it's quite a bit better than the debut too and certainly essential listening for fans even if the sound is pretty different from what they've done since.

I love this and Trouble Will Find Me the most in terms of the band's sound and originality, but the songs on Alligator and Boxer are just so incredible too that it's really close. My ranking would be Boxer>this(two of my all time fav albums)>Alligator>Trouble and then Sad Songs, Virginia, and Cherry Tree tied for 5th.

My ranking changes pretty much all the time but I can get behind yours Talons. Boxer, HV and Alligator are pretty much interchangeable for me.

So awesome that it, HV, and Trouble all went up a point this past year or two.

They're among the very best of modern rock for sure. I can't wait to hear what their next album will sound like.
