Ok, so I listened to the complete album a couple of times online, and I start to like it better. I think with all the fuzz around them, the talking about Welcome Home etc, it just raised my expactations for this album very high. And on the first few listens, it failed miserably to accomplish them.

I expected it to be much more epic, and with much more epic prog-apeal. Taking that out, it turns out to be a decent album after all, which is nice to listen to. Still, pretty weak compared to their earlier works. And it still does not convince me to pay 15 bucks for it.

3/5 (3.5/5 at best) from me

In addition to what I stated above:

The middle seems to pop-like for me. The artwork and the lyrics are pretty dark, but the music is in parts to 'happy' to set the mood for the lyrics right. Welcome Home or Ten Speed do an ok job on that, but the rest kinda fails.

I totally agree about this band, they are such a talented band. And yeah, they are NOT POP PUNK, they are PROGRESSIVE ROCK. Sort that out. Great sounding album.

They are not pop-punk, but they definitely have a sound that reminsces pop melodies, which is why some of their songs are amazingly catchy. Great band, and this album really showcases their musicianship and capabilities on their own instruments. The basslines are superb, but not overdone, and the guitar work is mind-blowing on some tracks. Standout tracks for me are Welcome Home, Ten Speed, The Suffering, Apollo I, and the Willing Wells. Indeed a great album.

Ugh I cannot stand the lead singers voice. It pains me. They may be great musicians, but their lead singer just kills it all.

I love how in the music video for one of thier new songs, he plays a double neck but never even touches the second neck.

From what I've heard of Coheed and Cambria, which isn't much, I like the music and hate the singing. Is the singing always like Blood Red Summer?

Bassist, it can go a bit lower than that, and it sometimes can go higher. Depends. On this album, his voice is a tad bit lower, especially in the Willing Wells (minus II). His voice is definitely annoying at first, but the more you listen, the more you'll learn to like it. Eventually, you'll begin to think it won't be CoCa without Claudio singing.

I've never found his voice annoying at all. In fact, I kind of like it.

Probably one of his girliest(sounding) songs, his voice is like that on a lot of songs(doesn't bother me tho)

Try Welcome Home, it's pretty good and his voice is far from sounding like Blood Red Summer.

I understand how singers are vital to a groups sound. High pitched voices aren't annoying to me. 3 of my top 5 favorite bands have high pitched singers. Muse, Radiohead, and The Mars Volta. It's his tone that annoys me. It's very... nasal.

It's his uncompromising inability to ever try anything new that annoys me.

by the way, the only thing progressive about this album are the lyrics. the songs aren't linked together, and they could all function as completely individual tracks. Pink Floyd and The Mars Volta are prog. This is not. Lyrically, but not musically. story albums do not automatically = prog rock.

it doesn't have to flow together to be prog. This has prog influences but its not all prog. But ya this album is pretty much progressive whether it flows or not.

What the hell is wrong with you? Coheed and Cambria always does something new on every album. Do you honestly think there is anything like "The Final Cut" on the first two albums? Or that "The Crowing" would have fit in Second Stage Turbine Blade? There's nothing wrong with not liking the band, but your reasoning is almost as ignorant as those who think Claudio's voice sounds the same in every song as it does on the one song they've heard from him ("A Favor House Atlantic" of course).

Honestly, anyone who thinks they know prog and only listens to Pink Floyd and The Mars Volta, shouldnt be telling anyone what prog is. But I wouldn't know if he only listens to those two bands.
