entirely orchestrated in creating an atmosphere of faux-emotion, faux-significance.

Good review. My brother and his band just recorded an EP with this band's bassist and spent the weekend at his house.

This is what I feel about a lot of indie music.

haha Eric, totally disagree, I like this, but it's overrated by fans. I'm between a 3.5 and 4.5, it's in no way the 2 you claim it to be, but it's still a very good record, this is their best unfortunately, they are nothing really 'special' except for a few select songs, like "Bookworm".

I really like Quiet as a Mouse, but the rest are just ok and Paper Kitten is just horrible.

thanks for the "good review," guys... I'm not positive how I feel about it but it was fun to write, needed to get it off my chest.

BigTuna: sadly, I feel the same thing started happening to me little by little... hence my recent foray into hardcore/screamo music, something that feels MUCH more genuine.

Progmasta: it really irks me how, it seems, every comment of yours is utterly definitive (i.e. THIS IS THE WAY IT IS) without much of a back-up statement. just a pet peeve, there's a few users who do that a lot.

It's just like "hey, we're indie so we're gonna sound obscure and put little weird sounds into the songs and make our voices sound like a cat or maybe personify a random object and do a whole album on it"

Indie is quite a pretentious genre in general, but when there's gold it is GOLD. Some of the more folky, punky, or rocky indie is genuINE. But if I ever see the tags "experimental" and "indie" by one another I stay away.

Eric, check out Murder By Death if you have not.

they were actually one of my favorites pre-Sputnik, so they have a soft spot in my heart next to Minus the Bear, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, John Frusciante, among a few others. and yea, I agree with most of what you said, if to a little lesser extent.

I'm not saying they're assholes, just that they're music makes them sound like assholes sometimes.

eh, not really, I still enjoy indie music more than any other genre (please refer to the oft-mistakenly used and misleading pie chart) it's just that when bands take it to the extreme like here and try to be Jeff Mangum or something it really bothers me.
