This review Pwned- no doubt. You gave everything what it deserved. Even the mention of Scenes from a Memory... Maybe how it mentions fears can refer to the story line in SfaM? Anywho

5/5 for me.

I'm just getting into earlier DT, and this looks like a good place to start.

A good review, some minor quabbles, but good, and informative all round.

Far out these guys are awsome! I can see that people dismiss this as technical wankery, but i think theyre just missing out. Metropolis pt. 1 is a truly amazing arrangment. What i love most about the album is it is just so musical.

I sense a Dream Theater / Click Five split EP in the making.

Man, Metropolis pt.1, Under a Glass Moon and Surrounded are by far my favourite songs on this album. By coincidence, the first song i ever heard from DT was Learning to Live, some couple a years ago, and it was it that draged me into DT. Although i dislike "slow" songs, Pull Me Under and Another Day are pretty good, and i thing ill never get bored of Surrounded, really amasing one.

Metropolis Pt 1 is awesome, though I'm actually gonna say, the bass parts to the song wasn't as hard as I expected, the solo is tough but not overly hard.

"The song stops for a second, and Moore plays the exact some piano intro to Wait For Sleep, except a lot faster."

Actually, he uses the same right hand pattern as in the first verse of wait for sleep and adds a completely different left hand pattern that, in the second half of the "riff", is in a different time signature than the right hand (right hand is in 6/8 two measures and left hand has two measures of 5/8 and a measure of 2/8) that is seriously confusing to get down at first glance... then on the third repetition he changes the right hand a slight bit so that all that higher notes are thirds! >.This Message Edited On 06.26.06

I love this album, it was the one that got me into Dream Theater like 5 years ago, when I was 12. I just heard Pull Me Under and it was like fuck, this is an amazing band. Then I heard Take the Time and Metropolis and I really liked the band.

This review was well written, great explanation of the songs :thumb:

To be honest, Metropolis is the only song I like here.

Metropolis...what a wierd song. Funny how that one song seems to make or break the band for certain individuals. I however, love the song. Although my favorite part of this album is the intro to "Pull Me Under". It rocks!

I saw the music video for "Pull Me Under" on Headbangers Ball one night, and it was the first time I've really heard anything outside of the generic mainstream metal scene. Thats what got me into DT. And its an awesome song as well
