Honestly I really enjoy his vocals here, they fit the music well. A strong "perfect" black metal rasp wouldn't mesh as well.
I think the saxophone playing is what makes this so well-done. Contemplating a 4.5

I've given this a listen and I agree. However, that's still not saying much. Feels like a 3/5, but I will let this sink in a bit more.

Really, really liking this album atm. I take back my comment above. The saxaphone parts are.....well......kind of strange but I like them.

I know, they took me back at first, but they actually work rather well.

Especially in "On the Shores", I love the way that track finishes. This kind of reminds me of Opeth at times and then just straight up prog-metal. Might bump this to a 4 for excellence. I guess I was not expecting Ihsahn to be this good considering the two blunders before this.

yeah this album def shows Ihsahn creating a complete album. the first two lacked something i couldnt really pinpoint and the songs werent captivating, unlike this album which has songs that grab you and amaze you. still the vocals arent the best and it hurts it from getting a 4.5 from me

No vocals aren't exceptional, but I would have to say that they sound better here than they did in his past solo outings.

I'm not too much a fan of his vocals on here, kind of sounds a little flat and dried out. His singing has stepped up tenfold and his overall musicianship has really been tightened up. Opening track on here has a wicked little riff in it!

Finally getting this now.

is this even released yet ? dont know why this dissapeared and was not put on the front of the metal page. Thought this was pretty good..

im pretty sure jingledeath is listening to a different album than me. my impressions upon first listen: nothing really special until track 5 'Undercurrent' came in, from where the album really kicks off, and maintains its awesomness right up to the final track 'On The Shores' which completely blew me away!

I highly doubt that, although saw some of his ratings just now and i respect the guy, for sure. still disagree on this particular album though. for me it's a high 3.5 (the second half of the album is a solid 4)
