I think saying that is actually true in some cases with regards to early death-thrash that is classed as first wave black metal by some. I mean stuff like early Sodom and Destruction and some early Brazillian thrash influenced black metal for sure but ultimately that stuff is just primitive thrash/death metal.

I'm not saying that you class the stuff I just mentioned as first wave black metal just that I know some do.

I have no problem with Bathroy being called black metal.

a lot of first wave stuff is borderline, as JT said, and some of it is labelled black metal for dumb reasons. like Mercyful Fate? that's not black metal at all.
