Bleak isn't a bad song, I don't think its one of the better Opeth songs.
I think I explained myself well enough, could've done it better, but I'm not perfect. The riffs are overall feel of the music is my biggest gripe, but I do have two big other gripes, which I stated.
Ill compare a band/album to Opeth and Blackwater Park for you Prophet178. Death-Human. All about 4 minute songs that keep my interest for the whole songs. Great instrumental work and good vocals.
Progressive death metal at close to its finest.
And nobody realized the biggest flaw of my review. I didn't talk at all about vocals, which I realized after.

Bleak is probably my favorite Opeth song. Kind of reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe's Telltale Heart....really creepy and beautiful song.
And the review isn't very good. It's less of a music review than it is a response to the band's hype, which is completely pointless. If you just want to argue with somebody about Opeth, then do that - don't bother writing a review. There's also a lot of rambling....or maybe it just seems like rambling because of the poor grammar.

Consider the things you aren't too happy about as parts of the music. These odd things that are happening reveal the deceptive bleakness of Blackwater Park.
Harvest's chords are dissonant because it's not what you think it's about. It may be relaxing to listen to, but it's a song about death.
Dirge for November's soft, sad intro is the prelude to the suicide described in the rest of the song. You can imagine why the deep, double-tracked growls were used during the actual act of suicide and the soft, fading guitar part is used as the character is slowly dying. Akerfeldt can subtly twist normal definitions of musical themes into something else.
If you think a little bit beyond the normal comfort zone of music, you'll get a better idea of what Opeth do in their compositions. To non-metal listeners, death growls will scare them away, but Opeth use them in hard, heavy parts with building tension, such as Drapery Falls, 5:36. This is my analysis of Opeth, based on my musical background. I listened to Blackwater Park only two nights ago, and I never forget a listen through Blackwater Park.
This challenge is still not won, but it isn't lost on you, either. You've found what's going on, but don't quite fully understand it yet, and it turns you off. To get my drift, listen really closely to Death Whispered a Lullaby, since that is a soft song. Is it necessarily a happy song although it's soft? No. Widen your perception just a bit. You're almost there.

Death whispered a Lulliby is a great song, my first Opeth song. Sorry bud, I've tried with Opeth for almost 5 years now, I just don't like them that much.
And Papertigers: I talked about every song on the album and went into great detail about why I don't like THIS album. I did make some Opeth generalizations that span across their library, but my dislike is album specific if I did a Ghost Reveries review it would sound much different.

The intro riff to Blackwater Park is one of the worst you've ever heard? Stopped reading after that.

"Opeth song is a treasure hunt for the thirty-sixty seconds of good music hidden within eleven minutes of well…crap." I think that suits the review much better than an Opeth Song!!!!
