Wu-Tang tends to be a gateway into the hip-hop genre.

curiously, not for me; i never really loved them until this record. i started out with immortal tech, the roots, deltron, and el-p

this might be a real gateway record for me. last year's roots record opened me to outkast, deltron, and the wu, but i've never really embraced the genre. I can see this being another album towards really getting into hip hop

same here. i got into hip hop through political shit like Immortal Technique and dead prez, got into other conscious rap, and then i got into wu-tang and i got into more hardcore stuff. my love for southern rap came after i got UGK - Underground Kingz.

hip hop was one of the first types of music i got into, then i moved away from it for a few years but eventually came crawling back.

it's pretty incredible how the topic of the discussion shifted from the intricacies of this record to how it's a great introduction to the genre. speaks volumes for how good it is.

Guess I'll give it a go, I haven't dug on hip-hop since Deltron 3030 a few years ago.
