What a fantastic band -- I wish I would've gotten into them sooner. I like Functioning On Impatience and 0:12 a little more than this one, but I think this and OX are about on the same level for me (even though they're vastly different records). Well-written review man, although I must say I disagreed pretty heavily with one part of it:
"Somewhere in the archives of time, someone made the decision to switch from dissonance to harmony. At this point in time, looking at how degraded and disheartening metalcore has become, I believe (and you should too) that this person was a horrible, despicable transgressor."
I think it's incorrect to say that dissonance is better than harmony or vice versa. That's just a musical opinion or preferance. It's like saying jazz is better than blues. I think there's good bands/albums on both sides of the metalcore spectrum; it's just that usually the ones that came first are the best then you have a bunch of crappy imitators (Norma Jean, Into the Moat, etc. on the dissonent side, Still Remains, It Dies Today etc. on the melodic side). Saying that one genre as a whole is better than another is something that generally bothers me.
But, review was an excellent read and I agree with all of it except for that (and it's not a big deal, it's hard to remove personal tastes/biases sometimes).
