I've already dug In Rock, Machine Head, Fireball and Burn. Should I skip to this?

When I said skip, I meant "as in hearing this before other DP albums". Just a clarification.
Seeing your rating, I might give this a shot.

outside of the ones you mentioned, i'd go with Stormbringer and this as the next ones

Opening track is badass.
|

Definitely on par with the best of their earlier stuff. Looks like a 4.5 to me.

I disagree. This is a great album but it doesn't rival the 4 classic Mk. II albums (In Rock through Made in Japan).

This here is exactly how it is.

^I guess we all have our rating systems. I'm somewhat of a generous user when it comes to ratings, though I don't give 5's too often (only to my faves from each band/artist). But yeah, if I love it, it's a 4.5. I give 4s if I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. I give 3.5s if I didn't enjoy it much, but still liked it. I give 3s if I did't like it much, but made it through the whole thing. I give 2.5's if I only made it more or less halfway through. I give 2s if I made it less than halfway through. 1.5s are if only liked 1-3 songs. 1s are reserved for when I couldn't make it past the first song. At least, that's how I do it.

Though I do agree that classic Mark II & III did somewhat superior stuff.

woah, such high ratings, maybe i should really check it

I've gradually come to my senses, gonna bump this down to a 4.

Excellent comeback album from a band that had been inactive for virtually nine years. Although Gillain's vocals do come across as slightly weaker than they were in the 70s, he still puts good effort in. Lord's keyboard work is as eccentric as ever and Blackmore uses his guitar solos to really power each and every song through to the end. The title track is naturally the most famous song on the album and definitely one of the band's most memorably song (given that it's been covered by so many bands since), but it would be cruel to forget the awesomeness of 'Knocking at your back door' and 'A gypsy's kiss'.

Excellent comeback record from the Mark 2 lineup of course the title track is always good including hungry daze as well among others.

I never liked this album even though I tried. I cannot agree with the fact that this one has a higher avg. rating than Who Do We Think We Are!, Stormbringer and Come Taste the Band.

"I never liked this album even though I tried"
Yeah, me too. The album has it's moments but as an overall experience it is pretty boring. For me, DP gradually faded out after "Burn".

Agreed even though I have both Stormbringer CTTB at 3.5. They're both great albums to my ears.
