3 is my initial rating until it grows on me... or dies
and im diggin oh sleeper cause it sounds like a better version of underoath... a much better one

review would have been taken more seriously if the reviewer took the time to proofread the pile of shit before submitting it.
apathy/sloppiness/unintelligence does not promote credibility.
all i got from this were the words 'breakdowns' and 'bad vocals' repeated over and over.
|
| |
i wont neg this but the fact that you continue over and over saying jake luhrs is a bad vocalist is kind of hilarious.
|
| |
this review sucks a fat dick i don't know what else to say.
|
| |
i wouldn't say that, but there isn't much detail considering this is like... the opposite of most of the ratings. if i had a rating like this on an album that seemed to be over-all well liked i'd try to be a little more descriptive other than just 'this is a rip-off of these bands that are in the same genre' and 'this is bad'

Actually, he is. He's raising valid points.
Edit: Nevermind, thought you were talking to breakdown.

haha i don't think you necessarily mention the vocals too often Redd, it's just that you're wrong every time you do. Jake is awesome.
Dante: yeah Oh Sleeper's good but this is a bit better, so hopefully it'll grow on you. and also Underoath has some really good stuff, albeit only on their most recent couple of albums.

Vocals are far from mediocre, fool.

you havent heard the unmixed demos from messengers have you? if anything his voice gets compressed.

And if you want proof, see them live.

also that. dude is so flawless live.

well i will admit he is not the best, there are a scant handful of better vocalists in this genre. but there are also a VAST amount of lesser vocalists as well. And he is easily one the best LIVE vocalists in the genre, hands down.

This review is valid because we all know that Misery Signals and Between the Buried and Me have no influences and have never taken anything from any bands they have played with or listened to.
I don't see the "complete Controller ripoff", but I'll listen to controller in about five minutes when I'm finished with this one and see if it's really as stealy as you seem to believe it is.
I agree that the vocals on this are actually a step down from the previous album. I mean what the hell is up with some of his highs?
|
| |
i think some of them are like his faux-hardcore stuff.
some of the screechy stuff is kind of silly though
i.e. mariana's trench ending breakdown.

Review was good not great. Sorry for another attack but the vocalist in this band is a beast; it was probably the producer's idea to layer them.

His throaty yells are also pretty grating tbh. His vocals were amazing on Messengers, just good on this. Music is much better though.

BRING BACK JOSH!!!

They've just moved into slightly less generic territory...
the problem is that you don't understand the awesomeness of this territory

From the first song on Controller I can see your point, but ABR's riffs have sounded like that since Thrill Seeker. They just improved over their riffs on Thrill Seeker so much that they have evolved to include better leads.
ABR hasn't made a giant leap away from Messengers, but they have made plenty of progress. I feel like you enjoy this a little more than you let on.
And though Jake's vocals on this are weaker, they are still substantially better than most metalcore bands, and that includes Misery Signals.

His vocals are way better on this.
Jake Luhrs is a terrible vocalist and there's a weasel in my pocket.
