This album was definitely a grower for me. Absolutely hated it the first time--and it left me wondering why Aaron Weiss had thrown everything away...

And then it clicked sometime last week. As you said, I just started singing along and everything sort of fell into place. My favorite tracks are "The Fox, The Crow, And The Cookie" and "Timothy Hay."

ugh see everytime I listen to this album I think hey maybe this is the time I'll get behind the folky new quirky sound but invariably I get sick of it around a Stick, a Carrot/ Bullet to a Binary. It's not the hard edged sound I miss now, these songs just get irritating quickly

despite how much I disagree with people writing off this album because it's softer/different/whatever, a 4.5 is stupidly high. I've listened to this a bunch of times without the distorted lens of "this is different, so it sucks," and even once you get past the fact that its different, it's simply not that strong of an album. I think that changing their style, they're bound to maybe have a weaker album where they work out what they're trying to do. I think this album is that. I welcome the new sound (I prefer the old one more, as I've been listening to mewithoutYou for about 6 years now and I think that their sound was truly unique), but this is just not THAT good of an album.

The Fox, The Crow And The Cookie is the best song on the album. A Stick, A Carrot & A String is also very good. They pretty much ruined Bullet To Binary.
