I think this sets a record for using the word "Whilst". I mean, holy god damn.
I absolutely adore this album, even after almost thirty spins. No other Mastodon album has kept my interest this long, and the fact they've cut the noodly avant-garde bs (which they didn't do particularly well) and settled this beast on a foundation is just a plus.
I highly disagree about "The Last Baron". For me, it's not only the best track on the disc, but the best track they've ever written (Yes, even "Hearts Alive" doesn't touch it).
Other than that, I do agree with what other people have been saying: This album wipes the floor with the other three they've released. This is the sound they've been hinting at for so long, and they've finally been able to put it together with reigned-in songwriting, excellent riffs, and amazing compositions. I even like this album more than the latest from Giant Squid, which is saying something.

Pretty good, but leviathan is still better. The Last Baron is pretty awesome, although it seems to drag on for a while. I think I might review this one after a few more listens.
