And Chevelle is probably the only band I actually like out of that list, lol. I have started listening to Dillinger recently and they seem pretty good.

I will probably give this another listen or two. These are just my initial thoughts.

Guess I'm one of the selected few who can still enjoy them. Which song was that?

For some reason I thought you'd say that.

lol I actually enjoy One-X to some extent, and Life Starts Now had some guilty pleasures. I did not enjoy their latest in any sense though. TDG is one of those bands that are enjoyable in-genre, but become the epitome of mediocrity the minute you stop being a mainstream/hard rock junkie.

The Michael Jackson cover was pretty cool though.

Yeah, I'm still that "hard rock junkie" even after discovering so many other genres.

Are there, for lack of a better term, 'non-mainstream' hard rock that's good? I have never really explored past the mainstream side. I like hard rock, but there are so many recycled elements in all the bands I have heard. Usually I just pick out specific songs I like by these artists, but never have really enjoyed a full album.

Hmm. You could try Karnivool, A Perfect Circle, Alter Bridge. They have solid albums, objectively.

Fair enough, fromtheinside.

I actually like Karnivool quite a bit and I enjoy some APC every now and then. Haven't tried Alterbridge yet though.

Cog is sick, but not the last album the first EPs and the new normal, fuck that last album

Get Blackbird by Alter Bridge, then. Ra's debut album is great as well.

Yeah ties definitely has covered the most ground in terms of hard and mainstream rock. All I can stomach are the heavier bands, the less immediate/bold ones like Hurt I can appreciate but am never in the mood for.

@fromtheinside

lol, I am sure that would be pretty intense. Especially with Incubus' more recent material. Super raw stuff.

I am a big fan of Thrice and I have heard a little bit of Dredg and Muse. Dredg seems pretty interesting and Muse has a few good ones here and there. I have had Butterfly Effect rec'd to me before, I've been meaning to check them out. I will try out the others too. Thanks.

It seems like hard rock is just better when it's mixed in with other genres. You could probably say that about most genres though.

When they think out of the box, bands can sure do some cool stuff.

Alright, let's see:

Alter Bridge-Blackbird (you guys knew this would be first)

Hurt-Vol II (hard/alt rock)

10 Years-The Autumn Effect (recommended if you like Chevelle and APC)

Black Stone Cherry-Black Stone Cherry (southern hard rock)

Ra-From One (hard rock/nu-metal with a Middle Eastern twist)

At least a couple of these should hopefully be to your liking.

Good to see I still hold my mainstream rock authority tag on the site ;)
