idk, reads like a devsol review

I was expecting this to be the next in the Wintersun/Morningrise series, but you did an excellent job. I totally disagree, but you stated your case well.
I can feel this way about any given Opeth record depending on my mood. But when I'm in the right mood... man, it's amazing. This is my second favorite album from them.

i know this is going to sound gay, but you just don't get this album. if you think the album's saving grace is the fact that it has a decent collection of "metal" riffs and you also think that the clean sections are "random," then you just don't understand this.

I was expecting this to be the next in the Wintersun/Morningrise series,
I'm insulted that my review is placed in the same context as that shitty Morningrise review.
|

Maybe not in terms of quality, but in terms of your self-titled "devsol revolution" of reviewing well-respected albums negatively.

your name suits you
wow i try to respectfully share some of my insight and this dumbass takes an unnecessary shot at me. well, mr fireaboveicebelow, you can go blow yourself.

It was more of an 'expressing my own opinion' rather than going out of my way to bash popular albums. The whole devsol revoluton is a joke that you'd only understand if you knew what devsol meant.

I voted because I thought it was a well written review, but I really don't know what you're talking about when you say you hear the same metal riff over and over again. Sure, it's the same style, any one part of one song may fit in to another, but listening to this is so damn powerful. This record reeks of hatred, sorrow, love, demise - the musical styles reflect the concepts flawlessly with perfect instrumental execution. Just can't dislike this album one bit.

Odd, I think the first few minutes of Moonlapse Vertigo are one of the most boring parts of the album

Note to self: writing somewhat negative Opeth reviews gets good press.
lol it's not really negative. A 3 still means it's good.
Albums rules obviously.

Really good review dude. This is the type of criticism with valid points backing it up that I expect. Well done.
As for the repetition thing, I think it makes the them of this album flow better. This Message Edited On 01.31.09

Though I utterly disagree with the rating, I must admit you back up your opinion well. Good review.

I've only heard three tracks off of this, will be listening to the rest soon.

Yeah what thor said.
I thought it was a very good review for those most part, though I do agree with Rasputin that you contradicted yourself a bit.
I disagree though, I don't see how Akerfeldt's clean vocals are cheesy at all.
But I'll vote.
