The best Anathema effort imo. Duncan Patterson's swansong with the band, unfortunately. He was adding in the compositions those low doses of atmospheric paranoia.

This one and Judgement are very close for me even though different albums. Yeah Duncan's contributions were very important but I remember reading that the Cavanagh's were feeling miserable with him in the band.

Yeah, they had issues with Dave Pybus too. Something was up with the bassists in this band during this period...

I cannot get enough of Fragile Dreams lately. One of their best for sure

This is one of those albums that just takes me back to whatever dark place I was in when I first heard it about 15 years ago. Easily my favorite Anathema album, though the crushing atmosphere on this is a reason I tend to steer clear of it these days. Some heavy material on here.

I don’t get the ‘crushing’ side of this band whatsoever. It’s all massive flim-flam to me now and would’ve been even more so were I 13. Massive artifice during these years but I just fucking love the band.

Could finally bump this to a 5. Up there with their best stuff for sure. Actually probably their best fullstop

That run from Eternity to Judgement is one of the best runs in any discography

If this was on par with those two, it would be ;] Anathema's discography is one of the best discographies of any discography though so all is good

This is actually better than Eternity and at par with Judgement

Yesss even the less good bits of their evolution (i.e. this) are amazing in hindsight

"This is actually better than Eternity and at par with Judgement"

For some reason I didn't see this comment at the time but rest assured I would not have ignored it if I had ;] Only concession to make is that the songwriting here is objectively better than Eternity's but the atmosphere isn't as strong and this has the highest concentration of cringe moments on any of their records including TSE imo. Judgement is 10x more mature and a masterpiece...

I find the atmosphere here absolutely crushing and bleak. Granted Eternity has the same quality. I also find no cringe here at all

I wish this had been my first Anathema album tbh, think I'd have clicked a lot harder if I hadn't gone through Eternity before it

Today I introduced myself

To my own feelings

In silent agony after all these years...
