why finding forever is bad;

'I never thought the day would come where I wouldn't care about a new Common album. For so long he's been one of my favorite MC's always with some great consistant albums always pushing of what hip hop could do. He's written some of the greatest introspective hip hop songs of all time he had to me a perfect track record. He was so dope that I treated BE as a disapointment at 4 stars. I knew he could do better. Ironically this would become his most popular & acclaimed album, so many people only know Common from BE. Common was always an MC that showed much evolution but BE was him stepping backwards and trying to go back to straigth beats & lyrics (Ressurection style but with Kanye on the boards). Judging from the first singles this wasn't going to be much diferent from BE but it is. All the songs are very hook heavy and are all very soft, the album might as well been called "Finding Flowers". The hardest song on the album "The Game" is Kanye trying to immitate Premier (even invinting him for scratches), it's good but it ain't no 6th sense. There are 2 great songs on this, "The People" is wonderfully executed and "So Far to Go" but that one was already on Dilla's album "The Shining" last year. That song just rubs it in of how this album could have so much better if it was all produced by Dilla, cause it ain't feeling the over-produced softness of Kanye on this. I recognize the amount of work put on this beats but these shits don't bang at all. The drums are weak, and he doesn't even have dope claps like his early style. His ego is eating him in. And Common... Damn he's lazy as hell on this. It just feels like the same old same old but delivered with alot less passion, too many love joints. I tried, I tried but I just ain't feelin it. Common still remains one of my favorites but I'm not a fan of the 07 Common. This album has alot of sugar but not alot of vitamins, the more I listen to it the less I like it... I would only recommend this one to Justin Timberlake fans.'

I like Finding Forever but I admit a lot of it is fairly lazy.

This album is that much worse anyways.

Finding Forever is hardly among Common's best work but enjoying it does not mean the listener doesn't know hip-hop.

Soby you just have an elitist attitude, that shit doesn't coincide with hip-hop. If you're going to insult peoples tastes based on perfectly decent albums then you will find more similar company on a metal or punk board perhaps.

Elitists in hip-hop, they are referred to as 'haters' and are typically cast out of the community. While I don't agree with the common definition of the term hater, in an elitist sense, you very much are one.

Nah I don't troll, I'm never deliberately looking for an argument but they tend to find me quite often. And Soby I don't understand why its so difficult for you to realize how elitist your past statements in this thread have been.This Message Edited On 12.14.08

You go around hip-hop reviews trying to incite all these bullshit discussions about metaphors and the ideologies of the genre. It's irritating.

To label the discussion of metaphors and musical ideologies as you do is quite a claim, and I would like you to explain why you think such subject matter is 'bullshit'. Its better than the typical 'album sucks, review is good' 'bullshit' on this site. This Message Edited On 12.14.08

Great review, but I've lost interest in Common a long time ago. His rapping is blunt, like some sought of robot or something in constant playback. Lupe Fiasco is good, though. you can't deny he's one of the more intelligent rappers out today.

This review is very disappointing. I was hoping this would be good, now I know not to waste my time.

Its really not that bad considering what it is. A lot of artists do things like this late in their careers, you can't expect Common to be on that 'Resurrection' tip his whole life. Celebratory dance music is fun in small doses.

The review seems pained on account of Common's ignorance of his own style. Which is obvious, but as I said several artists do things like this. Its not a good album and its not a bad album, its just club music, you can't judge club music on the same scale as you can artistic music.

Didn't you basically try to do that exact same thing with Kanye West's new album? I mean, you told me it was "club pop" and then used that as your primary argument for it being bad. A troll and a hypocrite...cute.
I said this is "club music" but said its also really bad "club music"?
