Ok I know this is an old review but I must say I hate track by track reviews like this where the song ratings do not match the album rating at all. Based on the song ratings this reviewer should have given around a 4 not a 3.
Rant over, sorry.

Crush with eyeliner is great. What's the Frequency kenneth is "the hit". The rest of it is confused and forgettable. But when has REM ever put out a really strong album? One, two, maybe three good songs per album, if you're lucky, imo. The good ones are great.
Automatic for the People? The whole thing is sappy and overly dramatic. To me it sounds not genuine--like they really were on "automatic". I like the tune of "Drive" but what the **** is it even about? Not interested enough to guess.
But here and there, all through their career, they'll have a pretty perfect song now and again. And I really like Crush with Eyeliner from Monster. Just a great simple rock song.

"But when has REM ever put out a really strong album?"
Lol, I could name a bunch of them.
|
| |
LOL, yeah that's hilarious.
|
| |
Certainly true if you neglect anything post-2000

Maybe I should give it another try then... I remember hearing it a few years ago and not thinking much but the memory is very vague

strongly underrated album, the ballads are some of their best. Also King of Comedy is spectacular

Album Rating: 4.5
Yep, this is R.E.Ms most underrated.

That's Lifes Rich Pageant for me but this definitely gets more flack (LRP > this though)

Album Rating: 4.5
Woah. Maybe we have found common ground with R.E.M rowbro. I love life's rich pageant. Flowers of Guatemala is one of the greatest things ever.

Yeah man. I think it might be love.
Fall On Me is probably my favourite early R.E.M. jam

Album Rating: 4.5
It's one of stipes faves I think. Early R.E.M is the absolute bollocks.
Murmur, Reckoning, Pageant (Fables not so much so) are the foundation of alt rock. The fact that they went on to make Automatic makes 'em one of me best bands.

Album Rating: 3.0
Still need to listen to this, I already know 3 or 4 songs though

Album Rating: 3.9
Yeah Murmur and Pageant are stone cold killers, Automatic is definitely the king tho. Haven't heard Fables yet

Album Rating: 4.5
Do it doof dude!
I'm going with
Fave - Automatic
Overrated - Out of Time
Best pre '90s - Murmur
Best post Monster - Up
Could've been - Hi-fi
Shite - around the sun

Album Rating: 3.0
Yup Out of Time is overrated, boasts one of the most lamentable opening songs of all time. Has a sprinkling of classics of course
Up is perhaps their quirkiest release, sometimes I think it's near brilliant other times barely rate it as an R.E.M album at all

| |
Album Rating: 3.9
top tier - Automatic, Murmur, Pageant
second - Out of Time (yeah opener is dreadful but the rest is all killer), New Adventures, Document
third - this and Reckoning
fourth - idk

Album Rating: 2.5
'Out of Time (yeah opener is dreadful but the rest is all killer)'
i enjoy that song a lot, particularly the chorus
|
| |
shit-house!
|

The most underrated R.E.M. album for me is Fables, Adventures needs more love too tbh.
How The West Was Won is probably my favorite R.E.M. opener.
