I think I remember seeing your profile picture as some Canadian hockey team and your spelling of centre and lacklustre just hinted at it. I'm actually going to Montreal to see a hockey game at The Forum in January which I'm really excited about. The Capitals playing on HNIC will be intense. What part are you from? I'm a Leafs fan. :upset: I live about 45 minutes outside Toronto. The Caps should be pretty sick this year though, they should go far. Hopefully we'll see a Pens-Caps playoff series this spring.

hmm, this doesn't sound much better to me then TDTT i guess they just lost it after Hours

Good review. I've been listening to FFAF again recently.
I might check this out, but I'm expecting it to fall below Hours and come nowhere near CDADIC (although that's a different style altogether)

hmm, this doesn't sound much better to me then TDTT I pretty much agree. It's slightly better, but it's definitely not a return to form. Bummer.

Random thought: does the spiral thing on the cover remind anyone else of the DNA scene towards the beginning of the first Spiderman movie? nothing about it reminds me of spiderman, but yes it does remind me of a double helix and a crappy symbol on the front of some album

I feel the same, the songs just seem to go nowhere, lots of mid tempo stuff with no decent hooks or guitar lines. Seems very mediocre to me just now, I don't see where all the praise is coming from, but maybe it will grow on me.

I think it is a step up from Tales Don't Tell Themselves but nowhere near Hours. It is a step in the right direction though.
Nice review Mike. I thought it was detailed and perfect length, probably because I am lazy.

I listened to this for the first time in full today. Right now at a disappointing 2.5 but I'm giving it room to grow and am holding off on rating it. First listen played like TDTT with the worst moments from Hours save for a few tracks which were excellent.

At first listen I was thinking around a 3.5, but it's one of them grows-on-you over time records..

because you've had a lot of time since it's release for it to grow on you i guess ...

I haven't heard the new album yet, but I can't understand why so many people disliked TDTT. The first few times I listened to it, it didn't do that much for me I'll admit. But it grew on me over time. I think listenning to TDTT while travelling was what really made me enjoy the album. It's hard to explain and unlikely that anyone will understand who hasn't been through the same thing, but I could really relate to the lyrics at the time as the entire album is basically about wanting to be home, but knowing the disappointment that awaits you there. That's what I got from it anyway, I don't think I'm too far off.
I hate it how often people say things like "it's not as good as so-and-so album". You can't even compare FFaF's (or almost any band for that matter) earlier albums to their latest ones. They're a completely different band now. People are simple, I guess they just want bands to stay the same, remain stagnant, and record the same type of music over and over while making small changes. Go listen to Kid Rock for fuck's sake. Not only would that make a band boring (and eventually you people would realise that) but it wouldn't be true at all. They might sell plenty of records to simple minded 'fans' and wannabe musicians but true fans of a band want them to change and they accept the changes whole heartedly.

well if you compare for example "all the rage" to your favorite track on the new album, i can't imagine anyone saying FFAF has evolved and the new work is better..

lol. i love sputnik n00bs. a band changing its sound doesnt make me not like the newer albums. it's when they change their sound to the extent where the records sound boring, uninspired and ultimately made for the current trend that they then have comparisons made about when they were 'good'.

And TDTT does not fit into that equation at all. If anything, the previous albums were 'trendy'.

And TDTT does not fit into that equation at all. If anything, the previous albums were 'trendy'. How does TDTT not fit that equation? It is boring and uninspired and it was definitely made for a current trend. The previous albums were also made for a particular trend, just a less mainstream trend. They basically left the land of The Used and My Chemical Romance and tried to get into the land of The Goo Goo Dolls and Tonic. This Message Edited On 10.17.08
